Hi can anyone tell me how to scale up the DPI on photos for my leaflets.
I was told by the printers that some of my photos are too small and some were too large.
Any help would be appreciated.

YWCS can you set the DPI to 300 on the photos
just having a nightmare at the moment, wish I just had them design the bloody things now.

Some are 360 and some are 43. my other half has spent hours and hours negotiating adobe illustrator. which is the format the printers want.

you have to realize that pixelation comes from the dots within the image. if you have 40 dot per inch it won't be as clear as 300 dots per inch

you can normally get away with scaling a good image up to about 150% if its of good quality, but normally at around 120% they start to pixelate.

work with larger imagews than you need then scaling down isn't a problem

printers require images in at least 200 preferable 300dpi + and in CMYK mode + to be to the exact sizes taking into account bleed and trim.

anything less will make it pixilated.

Most good printers will accept pdf files which are layered.

.ai adobe illustrator files are a b*gger to configure to.

once you get used to requirements it becomes a breeze..

GWCS they said some elements of the files were in rgb and not CYMK.
Also they have said that we have used True type fonts, and we need to use post script fonts.

sounds like its being over complicated. if your supplying pdfs you need to embed the fonts. i would just send either a 300dpi cmyk flattened .tiff, pdf or even a high quality jpeg. it sounds like your heading for trouble with them having to mess with fonts

they are suggesting we use post script fonts. whats the difference between post script font and true type fonts.

true type are what you see on your screen

post script is what part of the font you need for it to print correctly.

maybe you should of paid someone to design it ;)

I am thinking the same now lol,
just found out that the true type fonts we can't use is Verdana which we have used for 99% of our writing on the flyers lol.

verdana is a widely used font. if your printer can't sort that out he needs shooting!!

if your in illustrator select all the fonts then go to create outlines. this then will make them a vector image and you wont have any post script issues

you also will need to make sure all colours and images are in cmyk otherwise it won't split for print correctly

i can't remember exactly as my mac is at the office but from my memory once you have selected the colour you need to make sure its showing cmyk in the sliders

We are using Adobe Illustrator.
We are having problems with downloading Adobe photoshop. to convert our pictures from RGB to CMYK.

I could have walked you through photoshop, but Ive never used Adobe Illustrator.

In photoshop you just create you document using the pics as they are then once you are happy with the flier, you merge all the layers and then convert the whole image(flier) to CMYK.

What size of flier are you designing?
