Can you buy pure water like u buy petrol
« on: May 25, 2005, 10:19:50 am »
I was talking to a valeter yesterday and he was offered 200 litres of pure water for £13 recently by a largeish cleaning company that does all sorts inc windows.
I have been wondering: for those who maybe can't afford the outlay at first; wouldn't it be good to be able to just buy the tank, hose, etc and not have to process the water - just buy it like petrol.
I have a flat and no garden which is the main difficulty re water processing. Waiting for the company to get back after I popped in yesterday

Hi,

The way forward is for cleaning suppliers to offer pure water to window cleaners & the like. The more I think about it the more I can see it happening.

personally i think that sounds a bit dear, if you live in a flat i would suggest a di cylinder (a lot cheaper option) that don't take up much room providing you don't mind carring the 25ltr drum downstairs

Why don't you have a DI tank in your vechicle and fill up when you get to your customers house most homes have outside taps with hoselock quick fittings.

It could work out expensive if you live in a hard water area as you will go though quite a lot of resin but at least its a start and I think a lot cheaper than paying £13 per 200 ltr

or buy the merlin RO

thats so fast you can fill up a few 25 L barrels whilst you watch eastenders

I forgot to say I am in a hard water area (its medium according to Northumbria Water), but that's interesting about the resin option cos I didn't have any idea how much that would cost. If it was cheaper than they hypothetical £13 per 200 litres, maybe it would suit best until I find somewhere bigger. The RO sounds great but could I set that up temporarily to fill some tanks and then put it away cos there is so little room I could not fit it anywhere. I have a garage in a block where I could keep everything when not in use.

You need to check the TDS of your tap water to find out how hard your water is.

My TDS reading is 70 which indicates that my water is quite soft.

I get around 5000 litres of pure water from using one 25 litre of resin which cost me £83.00 = £0.0166p per litre.

The Ro unit is quite small 10'' width by 30'' high so you would be able to leave it in you vechicle without much problem.

i would say that £15 for 1000ltrs is very reasonable but £13 for 200ltrs =£65 per 1000ltrs NO WAY

We have been selling pure water for about five years.
Approx £10.00 for 500 litres or £15.00 for 1000 litres

Too cheap, I would increase the prices on that to atleast £20 per 1000 Litres and £15 for 500 Litres.

Reason's why.

Say your on a water metre and the cost is £5 per 1 cubic metre and your Ro unit needs 2000 Litres to produce 1000Litres its already cost you say £10 to get the 1000 litres then theres running costs on resin etc etc then theres a standing charge for the water in the first place with sewage as well to be added on. So £20 for 1000 litres might be to cheap as well.

Thanks Justin just thought that myself
Its costing WilliamX £16.60 just in resin to produce a 1000 litres.
We must be losing money at our prices.

I use a DI tank and just run tap water in one end and pure water comes out the other. it takes about 15 - 20 minutes to fill up, I carry 20 x 25 litres barrels.
