Whoops!
« on: October 02, 2009, 05:56:15 pm »
Put my foot through these tiles today to try to reach the above window.

Bloke who owns it said it would be fine if I kept to the nails; which I have done in the last 2 years. Tripped on my hose today and broke them. Like I say WHOOPS!

She was very good about it. I found a little collection of tiles they had stored in a shed for when they had the roof built. I reckon its probably an hours work tops to get it sorted. Shame, cos I think my excess on P/L is £250.00.

I never go on those roofs anymore, have heard way too many tiles crack even if I couldn't see a single crack. Not to mention they are pretty lethal when wet.

What were you doing up there may I ask? Guttering?  :)

1 hours work tops

the 2 at the bottom are very easy to do and will just nail back on

the top 2 will have to be repaired using the lead strip method ( i have a site on my bookmarks that i post on a DIY forum i use )

http://diydata.com/general_building/roof_repair/slates_repair.php

honestly a 1 hour job including getting the ladder out

If I couldn't reach that with a pole it wouldn't get done, its not worth it.

I doubt it will from now on. But saying that the job is £90, you have to try.

Can do it no problem with a 25ft SL-X. I have got one that's even further back. It's a pain on your muscles due to the angle, but can be done.

I like to see a full shot of the window and the ground.. i reckon it could be done with the right pole.

It cant. Ive been there loads of times. Admittedly the picture does make it look accessible but it isnt.

Okay, I believe you. That's a shame. Is the ground very far off?

That roof with the tiles on it is high, theres a kitchen underneath, its probably 10' from ground to the gutter and another 2' height to the ridge.

i could clean that no problem, you need a swivel brush, to work at that angle, i do them all the time, go wfp, and thats one reason i have  picked up loads of work from trad for  breaking tiles, gutters, facias, damaging the lawn, and so on, go wfp batman  ;D

Depends what sort of pole(s) you have.  I would have no treouble doing it from the ground

Not saying you should copy me, but i use step ladders for these.

So do I if I need to to get the elevation.  Not ideal but better than going on the roof.
