I think that pole height limitations will be made when someone drops their pole on a car in a busy street causing a fatal accident or when one lands on the passing public and seriously injures someone.

Insurance companies are restricting insurance cover height of use with WFP to 15metres as the normal.

I was cleaning a 4 storey block of flats over Brixham and a tourist in his car was watching me and not the car in front which stopped suddenly. I heard his tyres screech and watched him skid head on into the rear of the car in front. I laughed so much I nearly dropped my pole ;D

is that brixham as in torbay?
if it is how do you cope with all the hills around there and the narrow streets?

There's just a couple really steep hills in Brixham (Torbay) are almost impossible to get up with parked cars obstructing the junctions unless you want to burn your clutch out with a full tank of water fitted in the van. I wait 'til my tank is two thirds empty and the owners of the cars have driven off to work.

There is only two junctions I have to half reverse back and manouvre to enable me to edge my way out of the junctions with a LWB van.

I prefer to work on the main street leading into Brixham town centre and just inside Kingswear just out of Brixham as parking and access is much easier.

Do you know how much extra they charge for going over 15 metres?

Some insurance companies request you submit how high you work above 15 metres with poles to adjust the standard normal price they quote for your insurance cover. They'll cover you providing you inform them of the extra height required.

Out of interest Ewan what poles do you currently use?

I get most of my work with 17ft xtel with sl brush. I also have a 30ft tucker pole which is used ocassionally for higher work or jobs that are more suitable for the gooseneck on the tucker - e.g. windows with deep ledges.

I don't have a great desire to go much higher than 30ft and no jobs that currently require it.

I use up to a 50ft pole, but I think to go over this the prices of the poles seem to go up way to high for the initial amount of work I would expect to get.

Had to quote a job that needed a long pole, but in two minds weather to do it because I would  have to buy a 72ft pole and the price of the pole would mean I would lose money on doing this job.

The poles any higher just seems to me a little expensive.

Ewan havent you just bought the new modular pole
