Leasing a Van is it worth it?
« on: September 27, 2009, 12:07:01 am »
Does anyone lease a van, then at the end of the term, lease another one?

I was considering buying, but thinking maybe I could be better off not buying and putting the money in a savers account.

I know I would be spending more on leasing, but least i wouldn't need a MOT and repair costs (except for those outside of a warranty), and can continually update.

Is there any downside to leasing apart from not actually owning the vehicle?

IMO you can't beat buying nearly new or max 3 years old. Why is everyone scared of an MOT?

I've just seen a peugeot expert '07 2.o HDI with FSH & only 17000k sell for £4250!!!!!!

Say you run it for 3 years & sell for £1900, how much would you have spent in lease payments in that time? Then pay penalties if it's not still mint!

only 2 options as far as im aware
it has to be serviced to manufactures spec which can be included in the lease price or you can get it done via a repupatle dealer your self

a plus side is you can claim a lot more against your tax when leasing rather than buying

if ur off work for any length of time you loose the van which was why i bought as im a sole trader

I can't make my mind up on this :-\

had a lot of expense on my 8 yr old escort, still soldiering on.

I was told once that by a vehicle at 3 years old and sell around 5 years old,

theory is the first two yrs in a van/cars life suffers the biggest deprecition,  after that they obviously still depreciate but at a slower rate,

get rid of motor at 5 years still get something back/trade in and main reason is this is when you start having to pay for  repairs i.e clutch, exhausts. (and not before hopefully ::))

If you look at some of my old posts i did a post on this section.
good luck mate.

Unfortunately there's no winning it's a lump of metal that's worth less every day :'(

with leaseing your guaranteed trouble free motoring; having said that i know someone that pays £200 a month peugeot expert, was in garage after 1st month ::)

for me i still can't get over the £200 a month for leaseing £2400 a yr £7200 over 3 yr period still own nothing at end then you have to sell on to pay back finance company.

There's always contract hire as leaseing but after term you just give keys back and walk away.

but as with leaseing; company go over vehicle and if they think motor is not in resonable nick your get stung with an extra bill to tidy up  :'( as with if you go  over agreed mileage.

cheers lee

I know ionics do complete package,

but it's alot of money (working for the bank)

also varitech and maybe omnipole.

I don't know what your status is but if your new to wfp why not start off with a backpack.

i.e wcw backpack £115 with hozle lock connector and vat just got one as freedom trooley packed up :'(

wanted cheap backup system so wcw backpack 1st use will be monday fingers crossed; will order new battery for freedom trolley soon and will mothball backpack;  but listening to other posts have funny feeling it might be freedom trolley that ends up in cupboard :-\

I see no problem if you can afford it.

Mine's a 4 year deal, but I may change it next year (3 years) to save on the MOT and also as the van is pretty much mint and low mileage.
Best change it while it's still a good'un.

It'll be worth at least what I owe on it, maybe more, so just carry on with a new one at same payments.
The way I see it, if you keep having new ones you've got barely any worry of problems.
Only downside is £300 for signwriting again... :-\

The other option I've got is wait for the 4th year and get a loan to pay off the balloon.
That way I'll be paying half the monthly payments and the van's mine.
But then I face having a van in a few year's time worth about 10p...

Decisions... ???

Oh yeah, and it's an extra £3300 a year on my expenses.
Very little tax these days!
Rather give my money to the van company than the taxman! 8)

OK, so leasing is a way to go without paying out a lump sum up front which i dont have, but i can easily afford the monthly payments.

I was hoping to get a traffic style van, but didn;t want one that had been used due to gear box issues.

Im not bothered about servicing etc, all those expenses can be written off..

Squeaky which company did you go with? What type of stipulations about wfp, roof rack, tow bar and sign writing was there?

wouldnt it be cheaper buying a new van on finance?? so your still paying for it monthly but at the end its yours.

whats this about gear box issues and renault traffic? im torn between that and the vivaro.

You do know they're exactly the same van? ;D

Company was ArrowHire, Cardiff, but they're gone now, so that's not helping me!
Didn't get any stipulations. ??? It's as good as my van.

Trafic, Vivaro and Nissan Primastar are 99% identical.
The only differences are the badges, the dials, and possibly the stereo on some.
They're built by the same people in the same factory.
Have a look under my bonnet, half the engine compartment is stamped GM!
And it's a Nissan gearbox.

They're all Renault vans really, but some are badged as Vauxhalls or Nissans. Fact. ;)

Correct.
Although I wondered how Renault took over a company the size of Nissan.
You'd think it would have been the other way around.

squeaky can you post some pics of your van sign written - i know you have posted them b4 but i cant find them..

did you install a diy system or have you had it installed by a company?

sorry for asking questions, but you seem to be the most ideal person to ask as you have the same set up..

if you dont want to answer them here, i'll email you instead.

No, I chucked everything in myself.
That's why everything rolls about in there and makes a mess!
I just wanted to get working, and if things don't fit I bodge them. ;D

Outside of the van looks ok though...
Can't find the original proofs myself either...
