these are streaks! the blade or rubber should keep moving in larger movements. otherwise you get streaks. keep practicing. you will find these are where you are changing direction, use a larger turning circle and all of the blade, you may need to change your body position too.

also you need to blade over the areas that are soaped. if the blade is in contact with dry areas then it has no slip so will leave marks.
aslong as the rubber has some 'wet' on it then to a certain extent it can go over dry areas, but the chances of streaks will increase as this dries out.
thats why on hot days we need to work fast as the soap starts to dry quicker.

keep at it, it will come and be like second nature. you will be able to blade off a window with out even looking at it

ok, watch this guy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VtQ2PsbrD4M&feature=related

firstly cut the blade in, the guy here does that by coming up from the side, for instance you wont get a good result if you simply press it against the side and pull across, you would have to dry of a strip first so your blade starts on a dry position if you wanted to do that, however if prefer to cut it in the way this guy does it, and you don't have a make a dry stop first that way.

Now the second point is gravity, if you imagine you have the blade vertical at the top right hand edge of the window, you must tilt the highest end forward first, this way as you pull along you push the water down, now if you did it the other way and led with the bottom end, you would be pushing the water up as you pulled the blade across causing you problems as you with get a little line of water trailing off the top because you are not pushing all the water down, as you are describing.

Now look again and see that he never holds the blade completely vertical as he pulls across and instead it is tilted in the direction he is pulling the blade.

As said above try and keep it moving and now jerk it against the sides or come to a stop when you get to the side, instead try and turn to blade a little as you come up to the edge in preparation to reverse the direction.

If you look again you will see the guy has got the blade horizontal at the exact time the edge of his blade reaches the edge of the window, thats what I am trying to describe.

watch this guy, he is starting to turn too late, not the way I would do it.

also the guy should be using a scrim not his wifes pink dish towel  :D

I don`t know whether this is your problem but a lot of people make the mistake of not soaping the window up enough. This could cause your squeegee to stick and marks/smears left, as you`ve not cut through the dirt/grease.
I`m not saying overload your applicator but soap the window up and give it chance to wet and clean the glass. Give it an extra scrub/pass if needs be. Don`t let your applicator dry out too much either.

That's a great detailed answer by "ladder garder".  We recently had a good few threads about people sick of the same newbie questions all the time, why don't we put threads like this with great answers to common questions like this as a sticky at the top of the window cleaning FAQ bit of the forum ?
It's be a shame if another newbie didn't benefit from that detailed answer because people got bored typing it all up again and didn't reply to the question again.
