best connectors for system ?
« on: September 22, 2009, 05:56:31 pm »
Going to B&Q tonight to get better hose.

What are the best connectors to join the hose to and from the pump ?
Only those who risk going too far will truly know how far they can actually go

What connection/tap do you have from the tank to fit the microbore, and similarly what connectors to fit the microbore to the inlet and outlet of the pump.

Thanks

I use 1/2" clear reinforced hose from tank to pump and to reel, and the black and orange (hozelock type) connectors with flow tap on them  ;)

I avoid using connectors when i can. They always leak a little.
As the connection between water tank and pump will be a permanent connection, i think you are better off securing with a jubilee clip.
From the pump outlet to the hosereel, have it jubilee clipped where it joins the pump. And the other end where the hose plugs into hosereel, use a hozelock connection.
Plug that end into your reel and you are away.
If you have a brass swivel joint on your hosereel, then instead of hozelock, use a jubilee clip on there as well. Unless you disconnect much, avoid push fit connections when you can.

I have just learnt something from that post lol, why when something simple is the answer you cant see it.

Mark you have just saved me about £20 a year per van thanks  ;D

Thanks Mark, so what connector/tap do you use from tank to pump??. I was looking at the 1" to hozelock, but if you suggest a jubilee clip connection, what do you use, other than the hoselock type, and does it have a tap??,

so basically

tank to pump (jubilee)
into pump (jubilee)
out of pump (jubilee)
pump to reel (hoselock)

I thought the swivel joint was a hoselock connection??, so are you saying, just jubilee clip this??

thanks again,
sorry for all the q's

swivel joint will be on your hose reel (if you have one)
anything inside the van jubilee clip it as hoselocks leak and let in air and you dont want air locks trust me.

I have for an age had hose locks on my hose reels at both ends never thought of clipping on side, which I will be testing next week  ;)

Thanks,

so will this reel already have a swivel joint, so that I could clip straight on to it (second one down on page).
http://www.gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/acatalog/Standard_Hose_Reels.html

I assumed the hozelock swivel joint (on the same page) was needed to be added ???...................obviously I'm barking up the wrong tree ?? ??? ::)

I have only one hoselock connector on my whole system and that's on the tank outlet. I jubilee clipped everything. Hoselocks only work well under pressure and aren't really designed to spin.
Buy a brass elbow from Gardiners for the hosereel (that's if you have a metal hosereel).

thanks ftp, this is where I'm getting confused. People are saying jubilee clip to the swivel on the reel, but the only brass swivel I can see on Gardiners is a hoselock??? ??? ???

You are right I had forgotten that was a hoselock fitting. I have a metal female on mine and I normally keep the reel pressurised all day anyway. I don't have any leaks or air locks.

Doesn't matter if they are hozelock. 1 inch hose or whatever it is, will fit snugly over the male end of a hozelock. A jubilee to hold it tight.

It is 1/2 inch hose that fits over the hozelock connection. Not 1 inch.
