I dont think you can park on double yellows anywhere mate,

Some traffic wardens do see sense though and turn a blind eye but if you get one whos a jobsworth then there isnt much you can do about it,

Deffo stay away from the double reds ;)

you can park on double yellows anywhere in the country. But usually you will get fined. London is often worse as you can also be towed without notice.

better be quick  ;)
if it is dirty it is fair game

ring the council and speak to the relevant department, they are usually ok about tradesmen while working

Lol you want to come here we used to have a traffic warden until the council took responsibility for it - we now have 5! There is no reasoning with them and they dont just book you for parking illegally oh no, they even go as far as getting out a tape measure to check how far you are parked from the kerb. IMO if they cant tell by looking how far away from the kerb you are then they shouldn't be able to book you although saying that this is the town where recently the council employed fools recent booked the contractor who was carrying out the maintanence on the towns CCTV (they booked him while his was up his Cherry picker working away!!!) You  couldn't make it up, The annoying part is that shops in Tewkesbury struggle as it is without thses little hitlers doing their best.
Therefore I will make you an offer. I will swap my Tewkesbury town centre work for you London centre work. Afterall I wouldn't be surprised to find it easier to park  In london than here.

Most traffic wardens are on a commissioned based pay scheme, so why the hell would they say "ahh go on mate on your way - my kids dont care if they eat or not tonight".

They are just doing a job which they get paid for like all the other annoying sales types...

Would you rather pay even higher taxes for them to scrounge of the dole?

These types of workers are also a very good way of generating extra revenue for the council as they dont always get enough from central government.

So you can see why they are not going to let it go.. but if you didn't park ILLEGALLY in the first place, you wouldn't get done..

However if you are working via a van using fixed equipment inside the van like a pump or generator, then you need to obtain a permit/waiver from the local council.

Ah that one has come up here in Tewkesbury and the insist they are NOT paid by comission

Also I dont have an issue with them doing their jobs regarding illegal parking but don't you think it has gone a bit to far when they start using tape measures to check the distance you have parked form the kerb.
When was the last time you pulled up and thought to yourself "hang on I have parked 2cm more from the kerb than I should I better move it?"
If they need a tape measure to know this then surely you can see that it was pedantic.

Going back to the guy up the cherry picker, he was working for the council and was told he wouldn't need a permit as a result yet the women still came along and slapped a ticket on the cherry picker while he was working away (on behalf of the council) this is the same council who upto last year gave the war veterans  free parking on rememberance Sunday but then decided that theywould withdraw this. Did they tell anyone? No, they just waited for the day and then while these veterans were commemorating their comrades went out and ticketed the lot.  I understand that there are rules and they are there for a reason but when your parking is controlled ny the uk version of the Nazis it is hard not to get annoyed!

If you are seen working from your vehicle you CAN NOT or should not get a ticket, if for some reason you do get one, contest it straight away. also take a picutre of your vehicle in the state it is in when you receive the ticket. also tell the warden that there are rules and regulations, not just commision!

I was in the same situation in Oxford a few months ago,      the building I was cleaning was on double yellow lines with a bust stop outside.

was coming from cleaning the back when I spotted 2 traffic wardens at the van,     after I explained what I was doing they told me I would be ok as long as I kept returning to the van within 20 minutes.

He also told me that having hazard lights on while parked on double yellows means nothing to traffic wardens ( I had mine on at the time )

Maybe using WFP counts as unloading (water).  I had hazard lights on once so long that I ran the battery out.  I managed to jump start it from a trolley battery though.

I have found that if you have all your cones and warning signs out, they are a bit easier on you, but you're still chancing it.

i havent had a ticket in years , probably been a bit lucky and the traffic wardens have either been lenient with me and / or  we hear the scooters coming !

however last week i had 2 vans parked up on dble yellow lines and a mobile cctv van drove past and took 2 beautiful pictures of them !! @ £100 each if i try and contest them or the usual £50 each for quick and uncontested payment !

ive been very careful since , but its not easy as round my way they are putting parking permit and yellow lines everywhere .

Simple answer is Yes you will get a ticket at the least, we work in London most of the time, the council you are looking at working is Kensington & Chelsea, check there web-site re-parking, we usually get a day permit for either single yellow line, resident bay or parking metre suspension £26.00 per day saves the hassle and if someone is in the space you have paid for the council/traffic wardens get the vehicle lifted pronto.

Wouldnt chance it mate.

I used to do deliveries in London and even on single yellows when you are there for a few minutes they are on you like flies on s**t.

If you have to park just be very careful, especially in centre of town
