Hi Its ME!!
« on: May 21, 2005, 08:19:20 am »
Hi Guys

Its IAN RICHARDS and i'm needing  help from any of you computer buffs out there!

Yesterday i had a free day and decided to be office based and do the usual stuff.

All day i had a problem going on line, i checked with my service provider and no problems, so i ran different virus checks and all the usual stuff with no joy >:(

Then suddenly, late afternoon it came back on  :)

I then went to log on to Cleanitup, and it wouldnt recognise my password ???

After various attempts i gave up and carried on working, thinking that there may be something wrong with the site.

When i tried later, it was still the same ???

Now this is the really worrying bit, I can't use any of my passwords
Not to this site, my bank, my credit card, or other forums that i go on ???
But get this, i have also changed my password on a couple of the forums and when i go in again it doesnt recognise the new password either.

So, here i am stuck, as i can't gain access to anywhere!!

If i log off from here now, i doubt i will be able to enter again, so i will stay on line, to note your replies.

Hope one of you has the answer :D

Cheers

Ian

Hi Ian,

I don't think this will be the answer to your problem but I had a problem a while ago where I couln't connect to some websites, whereas others I could.

It turned it that I had to 'restart' my broadband router, and that cured the problem. It still happens from time to time and I just restart, and its ok.

Good luck with it.

It feels like someones cut off an arm when you can't get access to the web.

Regards.

Martin

Thanks Ian,

It doesn't really do it justice coz it's so small.  Looks much better on letterheads etc.

Hope you get your prob' sorted.

If your running a firewall it could be a problem with that, check in its propertys to see what its blocking or just uninstall it then try all your passwords then reinstall it (definatly put it back on if you do uninstall it)

Hi Ian,

On XP, are you using your usual profile or have you changed your profile in any way.  I had a similar problem when I changed from using 1 profile to another.  Are you receiving emails ok?  I found that it wasn't the passwords that were being rejected (although the general message was that the password was incorrect), but my user id/name.

If not, you could try restarting your computer from an earlier date prior to any changes (known or unknown spyware).  Log on in safe mode and follow the wizard.

Best of luck.
Cheryl

More info needed.
It sounds like you are not typing your user name or password correct. You havnt got CAPSLOCK on ? Most sites are case sensitive. From what you say you have lost your cookie cache. Thats why this site does not know who you are.
When you log in with your new profile do you still have to type your password in?

This may work.
Windows XP has a system restore, which allows you to re-set the computer to an earlier date. Therefore if something goes wrong you reset and the computer is reset back to when everything was ok. The restore does not change any data you may have added just the computer system, but it is advisiable to make back ups.

Click start, then all programmes, then accessories, then system tools, then system restore and follow the instructions.

This is excellent for correcting any problems or break down your computer has.

When I state it resets the computer to an earlier time, this does not include the clock which will runs as normal.

Give it a go, it usually works.

Mark might have a point.  Open a word document and type in some of the letters.  If it's not on capslock, have you maybe pressed the function key (this is the one that allows you to use 3rd symbol keys i.e. the Euro sign on number 4).

Morning guys

No, i have'nt left the caps on, that was the first thing i checked.

Like i say, i have tried all the usual stuff, i didnt know you could reset it though, i'll try that now, hopefully that will work.
Like i say, it doesnt matter if i give myself a new password the same happens when i come to use it again.

Fingers Crossed!!

Hi Guys,

I've been following with interest but haven't contributed as I'm a bit of a dinosaur on these sort of things.

Good thread and seems most of us learnt something.

Cheers,

Doug

Hi

Really pleased with the result and i can't thank Karl enough ;)

However, my computer went off line again earlier  ??? I thought here we go again!! I did another clean up of my computer and it picked up that i had a dodgy email that was sent last week. So have done another system restore from before that date and now i,m back on line again :)
Can only think that this was the problem ???

Hopefully it was and thats the end of it!

Will keep you posted

Ian
