Which kind of spoils Glyns argument of charging the earth just because you've spent thousands on a Guttervac. You can't charge hundreds of pounds with competition like that about can you?

£100's not really on a standard 3 bed house, but you can charge more than that of a guy with a ladder and bucket.

And before someone thinks of jumping on my back. Think about the other call out charges from other companies and what they use.

1 is a drain jetting company £100 min charge takes 5 mins but they have the professional tools, my home use pressure washer 10 mins cost me £60.
it is perceived value that sells.

Now on guttering, man and ladder charges lets say £25 takes 15 mins using ladder and bucket, down he comes from lader with bucket in hand, knocks door £25 please madam, shes there adding up in her head this guy is making £100 an hour my windows only take 15 and he charges me £7. Her end thought i am getting done here. Not everone is like this but any are.

Gutter vac cleaner charges £50 takes 15 mins unloads equipment that customer sees, shows dvd video proof gutter cleared. knocks door when finished £50 please madam. she pays and feel happy...

Same job, difference equipment, different price.

This is what I have found doing this job both ways.

I do not charge any of the prices above, they are an example. each job is different!

So a 5 metre side costs the same as a 15 metre side?

This just highlights the difference what a small business thinks they should charge ( and they wonder why they stay small) against a professionaly run "specialist".
The largest gutter cleaning company in England has a turnover of £20,000,000 per annum - they dont clean a million properties to get this amount!
They know how much scaffolding for a building would cost and charge less.

Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland

Average council house approx 8m of guttering a side

Local window cleaners = £15 for whole lot.

Local roofing and guttering company = £9 per metre.

and its the roofing company that seems to be flooded with the work!!!!

I spent over ten thousand on my wfp set up. I don't charge up to 10,000 times more than the guy with his bucket do I?

You are comparing gutter cleaning with a vac against scaffolding and cherry pickers on commercial work
Most on here are comparing a vac against a guy with a ladder and bucket on residential work. Big difference in where the competition is coming from.

Nothing stops any one with the right equipment and Health & Safety documentation from approaching any size commercial organisation and providing a quotation.

Very true. But the point was about pricing up gutter cleaning which most I would imagine took to be residential work.
Commercial work is a different ball game because of the health and safety isues like you said Glyn and the alternative methods of emptying gutters. I have no argument with that.

in my humble opinion gutters and windows are different products and so command different prices. Whilst you will always get someone cheaper than any price quoted i for one would look VPM rather than simple price.
For example I buy Hienz Beans at 48p but could get asda own brand for 21p you pays your money you takes your choice. I truely believe that if you look and do the business you will do the business
modern day methods ......tradtional values

£50 the lot - empty, clean soffits and fascias the whole shabang.
I know these prices have been quoted it's one street over from me too. Customer chose me through recommendation and he didn't like doorknockers. I did it for £65 which is still too cheap in my opinion but most customers around me aren't stupid and there's plenty of cheap competition about at the moment. Some of the dearest/fastest are the Gypsies who live on a site just outside of town.
