Best vacuum for home-made gutter vac?
« on: September 14, 2009, 01:41:57 pm »
Calling all you self-build guttervac guys. What vacuum cleaners do you use?

I've been looking at industrial vacuum cleaners and there's a fairly narrow range of specs and a wider range of prices.

Powers available seem to be between 2400 and 3600 watts with either 2 or 3 motors. Capacities are between 35 and 80 litres. Prices seem to go from a low of £200 up to £550 ish.

Those I've considered are all "wet and dry" models and include:

* Numatic WVD1800DH-2, 2 x 1200 watt motors, 70 litres capacity
* Numatic WVD900-2, 2 x 1200 watt motors, 40 litres capacity
* Soteco WD90P2, 2 x 1200 watt motors, 90 litres capacity
* Eastern Trading and Supply, 3 x 1000 watt motors, 80 litres capacity (on ebay)

I've also seen a few used machines on ebay with similar specs.

Questions:

=> What machines do you use?

=> What machines would you suggest?

=> What diameter hose/tools do you all use?

=> What else do I need to look out for?

There was a 3x1200watt at the cleaning show, Italian I think. But Omni probably has similar.

Have to say, they are bloomin expensive for what they are (the vacuum unit). Mine is hardly what i would describe as industrial quality. Everything has been built as cheaply as possible - flimsey non adjustable bin clips, crummy trolley and wheels. I just hope the motors are of a higher quality.

Sorry. Which machine are you referring to?  Is that the 640 or another one?

I really like the look of the Numatic. Their "Henry" vacuum cleaner is certainly up to the job of heavy service day after day. If the industrial machines are the same quality, I don't think I could go wrong with one of theirs.

The prices look reasonable for the quality.

I'm looking to do domestic. Would 2400 watts and 80 litres per second air flow be enough?

And Numatic is British!!!! Fly the flag, eh?
