I'm being investigated for stealing £42,000.00
« on: May 17, 2005, 09:06:36 pm »
This thread is a little off-topic, apart from the fact that I received a call from the MOD police today while I was window cleaning; and an extremely interested customer listened in.

I was questioned, quite nicely by a Police Sergeant over the disapearance of 42 grand!

The background is, a friend of mine was a Regimental Accountant in the army.  I stood in for him for a four week period while he went on a course about three years ago (when I was in the army).

I didn't really know what I was doing; but I received cash in and paid cash out, if authorised vouchers were presented to me.  Apparently; I could've stolen the money during this period.

Unknown to me, my friend, over a period of time had apparantly embezzled £42,000.00 before he left the army.  I left eight months before him.

Anyway, it looks like I'm being investigated too and I'm to be interviewed next week by the MOD Police!  I've told Wor Lass to hide all her porn, just in case they arrive with a search warrant!

I just wish to state, before I disapear from this site for a lengthy term getting a stripy suntan; had I stole £42,000.00 I wouldn't be climbing ladders for a living.  I'd have a top-of-the-range water fed pole system!

When it all comes out in the wash, it should make the newspapers.  Remember you heard it from Windows_Chepstow first!

I just hope they don't dig up our garden!

£42 000 is small time.

I worked on the railways and in the good old days, prior to the charade that is privatisation, 6 tickets collectors between them over a 5 year period collected probably well easily over £500 000 on the barriers at Gatwick Airport and put it in their pockets.

This was late eighties early nineties.

They got away with it on the basis of first of all the Railways should have realised sooner and secondly the only evidence other than heresay was about £300 odd known to have been pocketed by the ticket collectors by plain clothed ticket inspectors who set them up. (One of them who helped was me who had to pretend to be a passenger who hadn't bought a ticket at Victoria but wanted to pay at the barrier at Gatwick ;D  I had just been employed by BR as a shunter)

They got the sack plus small fines. Was it worth it?  ::)

Personally Tosh, I think you have nothing to worry about but I'll keep my eye on the papers and if I read nothing - I'll leak the story for a few bob to the Sun or Daily Mail.

I'll give you 50%.

Cheers

Ross,

I'm not clever enough to commit a white collar crime like accountancy fraud!

Mugging people; yes.  Cooking the books; no.

I found it slightly sureal explaining how an army Regiment organises it's finances; and how it would've been impossible for me to pilfer 42 grand to a police plod, while standing at the top of a ladder with a smiling customer in the garden.

I'm not really in the spot light.  I guess they just have to cover all possiblilities.

Hi Windows

I agree. Cooking the books is too complex.

The only person I tried to mug didn't give me a penny.

Never ever try and mug your missus.

She'll reckonise you straight away and give you hell on the spot and carry on for weeks on end.  ;D

You might find the following to be a comfort....

Some number of years ago I worked for a Government Dept, and I was "lent out" on occasions to the Home Office.

I can't give too many details, but part of my job was observing the Police.

Most of them were, and from what I still see are still, the thickest, most stupid individuals it has ever been my misfortune to meet.

The best part of my job was that when I had to report on their behaviour and actions, I used to write the truth in my reports and slag them off to the Home Office something rotten, [and all ranks, too!].

There was never any comeback, and I got the distinct impression that the Home Office, [unofficially, at least], agreed with me!

If the "MODPLOD" are anything like the civvy lot, just go into it with the knowledge that you have a far more superior intellect than them, right from the start.

Thanks, Baldeagle, but you obviously don't know me very well.

Thanks for your support too, Graham!

Windows,

It's always something isn't it? Hang in there. You know you did nothing wrong.

Hopefully this will blow over soon.

Hugs,

TOSH,
it will only be routine, mainly to see if you knew your mate was at it, you can only be tried by your c.o for up to 3 months ater leaving the service and a court martial for up to 6 months after leaving. so they will have to take you to the civil courts. that is a good thing has the MOD police from expierence only deal with missing sailors washing, so they aint that bright. how ever there is an organisation called forces law and these lawyers are ex-forces barristers and very good in matters such has these. you are welcome to any support from me or any further advice.

Ouch Baldeagle :-\ - I was one of H.M.'s civvy street thickies and those generalisations are as inappropriate for the police as they are for window cleaners - good and bad - stupid and bright people form the basis of most organisations. Amen ;D

A MOD Police sergeant called Steve, who sounds like he wants to be my best mate, phoned and has arranged to visit me tomorrow evening.  My missis is 'flapping' thinking I'm going to be 'stitched up', but she's been watching too much of The Bill.

Don't tell anyone, but I know my mate did it.  He reckons it's going to be worth a six month tour of Her Majesties Establishment.  He says it can't be any worse than a six month tour of Bosnia, and the pay is far better (£42,000 tax free).  It's just unfortunate I stood in for him when he went on a course.  But I'm honest and everything was above board - so no worries here.

Anyway, Ian, sorry mate.  Thanks for the help for the quote etc the other day.  To rein it back onto window cleaning, when Steve, my potential best friend calls with his notebook tomorrow; I'll ask him if his windows need doing.

Never miss an opportunity for getting new business!

Tosh

I can just see the headlines

'Geordie Window Cleaner Accused of Cleaning Out the Army'.

and the first paragraph in the Sun

A window cleaner today was accused of putting our soldiers lives at risk by alledgedly cleaning the Army of £42 000 when he was a serving officer. An army spokeman said that front line resources are being put at risk by this type of theft as the money was intended for vital equipment used by our brave boys who are serving their country...............

Aye, aye, you're all very funny.

I'll have a bit of fun with my 'potential best mate' tomorrow and tell you what he says.
