4040 ro help please
« on: August 24, 2009, 07:50:12 pm »
I have a 4040 system which the current membrane has come to the end of its life, so i have replaced it with a HF-5

The problem i have is the flow of the HF-5 is a lot slower than the old ro
The old RO would fill My 600 litre tank in 3-4 hours @ 60 psi and the HF-5 is taking 8.5 hours to fill @ 70 psi

I am using the same champ 4000 housing, i have even sent the HF-5 Back assuming it was faulty but they have tested it and sent it back saying there is no problem

Ive even bypassed the pre filters & softener but its still slow

I'm stumped with this anyone have any ideas?

How long should it take to fill a 640 tank with an HF-5 ?

Mine is a HF-4 and it does about 100L per hour off tap pressure only, if that's any help.
DO NOT by pass pre-filters, the chlorine will burn the membrane out.

thats puzzling steve
I also have the hf 5 from gaps, I upgraded to it from a merlin,
I have the waste/pure ratio set to 50/50 and takes me an average of 3 hours to fill 600 liters from just tap pressure at 60 psi.
What size hose is your waste pipe and how far does it have to travel to a drain ? I've heard that a restricted flow of the waste can effect performance ie; shortest route to a drain and wide diameter hose ( eg 1/2 " ) is preferable

I'm not really sure to be honest, its quite a while since i spoke to gaps for advice on setting up my ro and maybe I've got confused but was under the impression that long lengths of small bore hose restrict flow and can cause problems with performance but maybe (theres a  chance) I've got that wrong.

i bypassed the pre filters just for a few seconds to rule out any problems from pre filters and softener

the supply & waste hose are 3m in length

If i put the old RO back in the housing it runs fine again but a high tds reading as membrane is a few years old, put the HF5 membrane back in and back to a slow flow from both waste and pure

if the housing was faulty or the hoses blocked surely it would be slow on both membranes  ???
