Has anyone else dealt with this?
About 80% of my work is in malls. I have been approached by "facility directors" with their entourage (security personel) at 3 out of the 8 malls I clean at.
They insist that I do not clean exterior glass of store fronts after 10AM (Time stores open for business). They all claim it is for insurance reasons. However, there are other contractors there with ladders or other equipment. Also, the malls own janitorial staff are spreading water all over the place.
I have recently challenged one hot-head who told me to take my leave. He was very rude. I told him I wanted to see in writing this rule that says I can't clean the ext. glass after 10. He lied and said it is. Three store managers looked it up in their merchant's manual and could not find the rule. Rather, all they found was a rule for merchants to have their glass clean at all times. So, I laid low for 15 minutes, then went on cleaning for the next 2 hours without seeing him again.
All the managers at the mall say that I do not work for the mall, and the facility director cannot legally make me leave or stop working.
Anyone else deal with something like this?
