Leafleting
« on: May 11, 2005, 02:46:31 pm »
Im thinking of giving leafleting a go in a new area, Ive always just gone door-knocking before.

What Im wondering is if there is any benefit to using colour leaflets rather than plain black&white. B/W is cheaper, but does using colour give a better impression? If so, is it worth the extra cost?

What do you think?

I think colour would be best as u would want to make a good 1st impression. Black n white is ok but for quality it is always going to be a little dearer. If you manage 2 pick up a few customers the cost of these will be well worth it. Good luck. Why dont you chap the doors if its a new area as people like to see a face rather than recieve a bit of paper and i believe the personel touch is best.

Just before I left the army I photocopied literally thousands of flyers (at Her Majesties expense) and pushed them through every single (estate) door in Chepstow and half of Caldicot.  I reckon we must've pushed out around 5000.  I even had the little un' doing it.

You average around 100 leaflets an hour, so it took a little while, (a couple of weeks) and out of the 5000 leaflets, I think I had around the quoted 2% success rate and picked up around 100 accounts.

On a rare occassion you'll find a street, or an area whose regular window cleaner has vanished - and you'll do far better in these areas.  I'm not sure a plush leaflet would work better than a black and white one.  I think if a prospective customer wants a window cleaner and they receive your leaflet; and it looks sensible enough; they'll phone.

My round basically evolved from this and two years on I've more work than I can shake a stick at.

I tried black on white paper and didn't great a great responsc from those.
But i had a guy off of ebay print them and the quality was crap. he must have printed them with a John Bull printing set.

Got some colour leaflets professionally printed and get a good responce from these.
My business has been mainly built up from leaflets and i think as long as the leaflet looks good you will pick up some customers.
I get to quote about 2% - 3% and i convert just over half of these.

I've always used until recently Blue print on white paper looks a little sharper, Normaly get the expected 2-3% return but the great thing about leaflets is that they get every-were
I get calls from an area that was leafleted over a year ago, calls from friends and relitives of people that have had a leaflet, and the other week a call from a large stately home (now a bussiness centre)because some one had passed a leaflet onto them (got the bussiness).

As I've now got a nice sign written van I've been toying with the idea over recent weeks of doing a AA style promotion on a supermarket car park, complete with pain of glass and demonstrations, the more I think about it the more I think it could be a winner?
The secret is not doing as you like but liking what you do

that sounds great...I'd suggest doing something like that on a Saturday....or when the time won't eat into your earnings....but a great promo......(of course, other cleaners might come and watch...be prepared for a little ribbing...)

Hi Thewindowcleaner 1

About 4 weeks ago we got 2 commercial jobs in an area where we didn't have any other commercial work so we decided to go around all the shops, offices, etc in that area.

My business partner gets bored doing that so we decided I'd go around all the shops and he'd stand in the middle of this shopping precinct and simply hand out leaflets with his BOAB and cloths over his shoulder. He handed out roughly about 200 in about 2 hours.

We didn't get a single call that day or the following week but this week and last we've had 11 calls as a result.

I didn't expect to get more than one or two calls but it seems otherwise and it also seems there is a delay between handing the leaflets out and getting the calls.

The demostration thing  .... dunno about that. I'd be interested in the results if you do that. It's an odd enough thing to do to produce the results though.

Cheers
