Need a long lasting pole, got trough 3 orange cheapies from wcw an pure freedom. want something thats light and bullit proof  that wont fall apart . most of my round is residential 2 storey, i have an uger 30 foot for the 3 story work so what is the best 17 / 20 foot pole, happy to pay top money is carcon the way to go>?

If you want 'bullet proof' then you need to go for Aluminium poles. You could look at the Prolong range from Brodex or Tucker poles (Aquafactors). Omnipole also do a telescopic aluminium pole, but many find the twist grips awkward. I would probably recommend a Brodex Prolong Elite18ft for £251 +VAT

Carbon fibre being a composite material should not be considered as a 'Bullet-Proof' option. Carbon fibre is very strong in that it is very rigid whilst being very light as opposed to aluminium which is heavier and less rigid. Aluminium is much slower to wear having a harder surface. Carbon Fibre has a relatively 'soft' surface which allows abrasion to happen.

There are two choices here weight/rigidity versus longevity. Decide which is your priority and choose accordingly.

if your not the strongest of fellas i'd steer clear of aluminum poles. there heavy as!!

Alex's poles last well as long as you look after them. keep it clean and fully open the locks when retracting it. makes a big difference.

Tom what do you do with the poles for them to only last 3-6months.
remember no pole in indistructable if mishandled. look after your kit and your kit will look after you.
I have had my extel 24 ft now almost 5 months and thats working a 5 and half day week, apart from a few scratches theres nothing wrong with it.

I've had an slx well over a year now, it's used for everything & it still works perfect!

I once had an extender, it lasted about 4 days!

At 20ft aluminium poles won't make much difference but will outlast all other types of poles. I've got a Tucker pole with the same clamps fitted as used on the SL-X with SL-X brush so pole isn't whippy at the top as much as it is use to be.
