1st conservatory!
« on: July 11, 2009, 03:10:32 pm »
just picked up my 1st conservatory, and need some advice on wfp...

1) what equipment do i need? (got pump sprayer and step ladder)
2) can anyone give me a technique/process breakdown?
3) is it ok to use my wfp brush that i use on windows?

i am sure there will be more questions, but these will suffice as a starter for 10!

cheers

If your doing the roof mate then yes just use your WFP as usual but clean all the white PVC on roof first then wash the glass followed by a good rinse and don't forget the conservatory gutter,   if its white PVC then it will look really smart when you have finished.

Is it glass or a plastic roof ?

Before you start, look where the sun is. Do it so you have the sun to your back or so your not directly looking into it.

Start with the finals at the top... You will get lots of dirt out of them so make sure you do them first!

Before you apply TFR or similar, give the roof a quick hose down to soften the crap on the roof, then apply the TFR. Leave it for a couple of mins then scrub scrub scrub and pay extra attention to the white bits. I usually do a section then once done move onto the next one.

If its a plastic roof you can rinse off with the hose ( attatch the hose pipe to the end of your pole ). I use a sprayer (not the gun style) to rinse off on the plastic roofs.

If its a glass roof you have two options. I prefer the first, but its preference.

1) Rinse off with the hosepipe, then when finished, go over with pure water.

2) Rinse straight off with pure ( you will use more pure doing it this way )

Once the main part is done I finish off by emptying the guttering out. Then the edges of the roof and those plastic parts that snap off easily. Then a wipe down of the visual guttering and finish off WFP the conservatory windows.

Tools wise I use the following

- my WFP kit (I do use my brush for the windows and TFR, but rinse inbetween - never had any complaints)
- step ladders
- soft hand brush for the edges
- trowel for the gutters
- converted harris pole with sprayer attatched and a paint brush on the end (works a treat for finals)
- cloths to wipe down the visual part of the guttering
- a bucket for emptying the rubbish out of the gutters into
- a pair of shades ( incase you don't look where the sun is first )

TFR products work better with hot water I have found. Its worth mixing it up at home with hot water if the customer isn't in to get hot water from.

Good luck with your first conservatory and let us know how you get on with it.

Sure some others will be giving out some other advise / ways of doing it. Best thing I can say is try any other ways too and see which way works best for you. That's what I did.

superb! thanks window wipers!

loads of lumps of moss on top, so will need a big bucket, best bring the mrs... :-\

whats a final by the way?!

also, it looks like a correx roof (corrugated plastic).

more of a lean-to conservatory rather than a modern constructed one.

really excited at the prospect of it, i know i underpriced it compared to what i see on here, but i just want the practise and another tick in the box.

Your welcome concept, how long you been going ?

That is easier to clean than glass in my opinion.

Get the moss off after you have soaked the roof

The finals are those spikey bits that sit ontop of the roof. There a pain in the ass as far as im concerned !!! dont put too much pressure on them

Are you using tfr ? or similar product ?

no finals on it thankfully, nice and simple to ease me in gently!!

if i can get tfr in time i will, if not, i will use generic detergent.

really looking forward to the challenge.

Concept....  you certainley have been doing your reasearch matey. You have been here as long as me.

TFR works out cheaper in the long run in 25L containers, but if you cant get and / cant afford it at the moment here is what im using.

Its called Swarfega - multi-purpose outdoor surface cleaner. Its in a red bottle and you will find it in B&Q.  2L is £4.98 and 5L is about £8.

works a treat for me.

If you want a piccy of it just email me and ill send you one
