does anyone use a portable am/mw radio with earphones whilst working, i am bored of just listening to music all day on phone radio and want to listen to five live, talk sport and the cricket (to listen to us struggle) , any ideas where sells a good one

I've used a "Roberts" radio for a few years now. Costs about 40 quid. One AAA battery, lasts for ages. Pretty good reception too. I'll try and find a link.

Hi,

I listen to LBC 97.3 Nick Ferrari & James O'Brien during the day. Classic is good if you want a complete change.  All on my nookie 6230i.

One of the benefits of listening to it on the Mobile is that you hear your phone ring.I  Presume with a DAB radio, what with the ear plugs & your phone perhaps being in your pocket you wont hear it ringing.

 It was £40 when i bought it - about 4 years ago. probably a lot cheaper now... not all of the radios i've tried have very good reception - this one is the exception - even mobile phone radios i've had have been rubbish!!

Plus the DAB radios I've had a go of haven't had great reception, and so I've heard, they're gonna be totally replaced in a couple of years so there's no point buying them right now anyway!!

youv'e totally lost me mate as DAB is far more better than normal radio,  the stations are crackle free and much clearer.   but like everything in life there will be faults with some of them from time to time.

having worked for Sony for 19 years I did recall on more than one occasion seeing a returned model listed as faulty  but 99.9%  of them were perfect with a superb reception

dab the reseption is ent grate you go rownd the house but the ting gos off ,iv hd two of the dabs now both slung in the drore

Roberts make good quality radios I always have one ( small clip on type ) with me wife bought it for me 5 years ago when hospitalised.

I was possibly one of the first to be seen with an ear plug and radio in pocket way back in the early 1960's. Worked on the golf course at that time so no one to annoy !

I would think so cos they're made for listening to sports. Mine even switches off after 1 hour 30 mins (the length of a game). I find that useful as it saves me battery if i accidentally leave it on when i finish work though!

Also do you 'lose' a station at all when you turn and move around at all?

 Maybe I've just been unfortunate with my experience! Maybe it's just the reception in the area I live. Anyway, I like to stick with what does the job for me and a simple portable radio works great for me (until they switch analogue off anyway!)

If that's directed at me Henry, you have earphones yeah, and it stays on the same station until the battery runs out! (lasts me days if i have it on continuously all day)
