What is going on here,

I thought the idea of the forums was to help one another in our quests to be the best in our professions and to discuss topics related to our professions, however just lately topics have been posted with references to things like the great wfp DIY verses factory built systems, this topic got out of hand as insults were being hurled at certain people.

Now we have another topic regarding links to cleaningpro from cleanitup  not being allowed (yet again another highly debated topic which seems to be getting out of hand)  and now finally on cleaningpro we have they latest debate about vote rigging or canvassing for votes (call it what you like) again getting out of hand.

It all sounds to me like the general elections are now coming into the world of window cleaning in  a nutshell it’s all getting FAR TOO POLITICAL. This is not the reason why I for one joined these two forums, I joined them to chat and learn more about our chosen profession and to share things in common with others such as myself.

I have enjoyed using both forums and hope to continue doing so however just lately they both seem to be straying away from the path they were set up for. I personally have learnt so much from both forums especially when I first went wfp and ask for advice which I gratefully received (again from both forums).

I for one will not say that one is better than the other as I enjoy using both and they both have there own merits (a credit to the moderators and designers of both sites) I personally have never liked the DIRTY WARS CAMPAIGN and think it has no place on either site, lets PLEASE use these sites for the purpose they were set up for i.e. discussing our professions.

As I stated earlier I like both sites but if this trend continues I feel I will have no option but to stay away.
I may be wrong but I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels this way.

I totally agree, I use both sites in equal quantities, they cover the same things, have basically the same members and are in essence the same.  I cannot understand why there is the bitchiness, what is to be gained? neither site seems to encourage peripheral advertising.

I use them primarily to gain information on best practices, techniques and problem solving, I also try and contribute where I can.

The only difference between the two is another forum have a poll at the end of the month for best member or whatever, this is quite subjective, but the prize is generally very desirable.  But, as we can now see, this creates competition for between those shortlisted.  Pointless, lose it or make it the choice of the moderators.

: i think both sites are great, after cleaning windows for 14 yrs i have learnt more on these 2 sites in the past month than i have over the years, its good that window cleaners help each other out that way we can learn from each other    I dont know about you guys most of the window cleaners i see about dont want to speak or you get the funny looks, its as if they treat w-c as top secret  so i will treat each site as equal because you never know what will benefit you on each. thanks brett

It's inevitable really. Afterall, there's only so much to say about window cleaning, even with the inovation of WFP.
We've all started to read an article in the paper, & realised half way through or even after the first couple of lines that we can't be bothered to finnish it.
If something offends , don't read it. My attitude is that within reason, anything should be ok as long as it vaguely relates.
I'm not advocating anarchy, but too tight control & the thing will just go round & round on the same old topics. The odd cat amongst the pidgeons is harmless.

He wasn't quick enough before I cut and pasted 'quoted' it into one of my posts!  Vince got the wrong end of the stick, assumed a post was directed at him when it wasn't and spouted forth a torrent of colourful abuse.  Of course the spell checker turned it into 'Bullnuts' and 'female doginess', but the 'one handed work out to a Cindy Crawford keep fit video' slipped though.  That one was directed to all of us!

Anyway, Vince sends his regards in a post from pros.  He still Mods there.  I didn't know it, but someone sent me another window cleaning site that Vince created.  It's died a death - months ago - but was full of non stop swearing; with racial content too.

It was really very funny, in a pathetic sort of way.

I'm also saddened at the politics as I did used to like the other site too.  Vince and his ilk put me off!

As for being banned, Vince didn't give the moderators here any other option than to ban him.  In their defence, they were very tolerant and did try to appeal to his better nature first.

To Grafters:  You seem like a top bloke and I apologise for raising the stakes in the debate with reference to another forum.  Philip also asked me to refrain.  I'll take your comments on board during my future postings.

I'm sure Justin would agree with me that Forums like this go through phases, and it would be fair to say that every now and then things get heated up and then die down again.

Also, members move on, and new ones come along, this is a good thing.  I can remember when I first came here, we had many posts by Wavie Davie, Polepro, "Fez", "Heritage Lee", Mikey Warner, "Central", "Anderclean" and a whole load of others who you don't see now.

Either they get tired of the whole forum thing, stop window cleaning or whatever.  It can take up a great deal of your time if you're not careful, and I know of at least 2 members who decided that they would give up forums alltogether in the interest of preserving their marraige!  Fair comment I say.

These little contraversies come along from time to time, (and there have been far worse than this).  My advice is to not let it get to you, try not to get involved, and as sure as eggs is eggs, everyone will be talking about something else in couple of weeks.

Remeber, we are talking about window cleaning, and no-one takes that more seriously than me.  But it isn't war in iraq, lets keep a level of perspective.  Most of us chose this job for the freedom and stress-less lifestyle, so lets not now get stressed about the goings on!

I have benefitted greatly from these and other forums, and I'm sure many others here have too.  In many ways, forums have come of age, and I believe they are here to stay.  Lets make use of them, respect the rules that are made, and do it in good spirit.
