Equipment paying for itself?
« on: July 02, 2009, 09:53:15 pm »
Do you sit down and try to work it out or just carry on regardless?
These days I don't tend to bother anymore - if I need it i'll buy it. If i were to justify every cost I'd never purchase anything.

If its gonna make more money, and you will use it to do that then surely its all good, plus if its bringing tax benefits etc its ok

Depends how you look at things. I might spend money on something knowing it won't make me any extra money BUT will make my life easier or more comfortable. So, paying for itself could be achieved in different ways, see? ;)
I like my work to be as easy, hassle free & quick as possible, I do not mind paying for this at all. :)

Yeah thats true too, but i look at it also as every penny spent on wotk is money lost for earnings :)

I think thats the main attraction to ladders and buckets, i spend so little its untrue, but i know i will earn alot more with wfp so its a trade off :)

No IF i need something I buy it. All of our equipment is bought from the business account and is tax deductible anyway. Ive not wasted any money on stuff that I can think of and have a good selection of trad and WFP kit,all of which gets used.

Thanks guys just curious. I built a Vac system some time ago and was going to keep tabs on the money it made me so I would know when it had paid for itself. I soon lost interest in tracking it and viewed it more as a tool to give me another work opportunity.
I've never really kept track of my wfp set up either and wondered if it was a pointless excercise anyway?

Don't keep on at ewan all the time. He can make usefull contributions.I've come to accept that he's different in some ways.He would be better liked if he gave some info- like the rest of us- about his vehicle, kit, round size, etc.

As regards the topic this is one of my big window cleaning beefs. I think that wc's are mostly very tight and don't realise how spending money can make their lives and businesses better.

Simple examples are things like george software, or an sl2.

Depite the fact that fpt went self build on gutters, he does seem to accept that investment (and that can be time) always pays off- but is sometimes hard to measure.

To me it's the opposite of that saying, he knows the cost of everything but the value of nothing. To make your business valuable there is often a financial cost.

I spend like mad, have loads of stuff i don't use, but i have taken years off the time it would have taken to build my business otherwise.

yes, and thats what i mean. you have to look beyond that, as you did in your earlier post. For example how much is it worth to have the best flyers in the world?

But you would USE the best flyers in the world would you not?

If I invested in the best flyers but didn't use them would that be a good investment?

Not alot if you dont post them :)

Sometimes a cheap flyer might bring in the same amount of work if you repeat post on an area you know theres know cleaner, i think that 9 out of 10 times if they need a cleaner they will call, you could of written it on loo papaer and they would ring ....

I print them myself quite cheap and get lots of calls

Only the right investment along with the correct application of it will pay & will still usually carry a degree of risk with it even then.

To continualy state "investment always pays" is, to be honest, idiotic & totally false! If it wern't we'd all have 20k vans with Ionic pro-7's in them with guaranteed sucsess & be living the hi-life. ;)

You wouldn`t be living the high life with that system they cost a fortune in filters to run that machine,i reckon the water goes round that unit about 10 times before it`s munched all your resin and cleaned the water.

Im always suspicious pf people like that in life, who go around pointing this, that and the other out, without actually showing what its done for themselves.

You only have their word for it, no evidence, are they hiding something?

the world it full of them, and we all know who they are on this forum

its just sometimes easier to ignore them
