more van advice.
« on: June 19, 2009, 09:20:41 pm »
hi
thanks for all your advive.

I wonder if anyone can advise me what the different lease terminology means i.e contract lease,
lease and i think there was another one?

also the new berlingo looks good i like the 3 seat option, will be putting in a child seat for my 4 yr old daughter as in my escort at moment.
would that be ok?

also in my escort i have bulk head  with cage so my trolley and barrels are sectioned off.
is this available in berlingo?
As i've seen what they call ladder bulk, not really what i want.

got my escort back now, has a diesel leak :'(
will be back at garage again.

Pretty much lost all faith in my van.

And all faith in mechanics and garages.

There are quite a few various bulkhead options on the berlingo. there will be something that suites you i'm sure.

Also, the older shape (upto 07) dispatch/expert/scudo would be a good choice too, most of them models have 3 front seats & are good vans.

BROADSPEED - were doing the 1.6hdi 850LX berlingo (the one you want) for 9.5k ON THE ROAD!!!! Yes inc. VAT & everything. Check them out. ;)

contract lease/contract hire = is basically long term hire. pay your monthlys and give it back at the end of the term and start again with another brand new van.

Lease purchase = pay your monthlys + a figure of a couple of thousand or so at the end (balloon) and the van is yours to keep, or you can sell the van to pay the ballon.

contract hire, you get the vat you pay each month back.
lease purchase, you get the vat back all in one go at the beginning.

We always go for contract hire over 3 years, this way we have never got a van that is not in warranty.

Having said that, unless you intend to fit a 400+ tank you'll be ok with the lower payload model, which is cheaper & more available.

not all garages/mechanics are bad  :-\
i was a full-time mechanic for over 20 years and only remember getting about 3-4 jobs coming back!
and they were only stupid little things ;)
what was wrong with your van?

pandf2

I had a lot of probs after service that pointed to air in the system took it to my mates garage he suggested a proper ford filter with plunger on top as this is common fault on ford escort did this still no good, sent me to another garage he rates who do all the black cabs.

they said it was fuel pump and fiited 2nd hand one.

Had it for 2 days got back fri pm drove home 40 min drive, parked up outside my garage, stunk of diesel could see dripping.

took to mates garage saturday as other one who fitted pump not open til mon,

my mate said will be something simple but it's leaking out of where throttle cable joins pump,
also it's not driving the same (sluggish) my mate rec's this is where timing has been altered.

How do you think i should handle  this.
Obviously i'm very angry i'm driving straight to garage, i don't want to be aggressive.

But i frightened i gonna be palm'd off.

I need the van to work, without it i'm losing money fast.

all in all with lost wages and all i've spent it's cost me about a grand :'(

ALSO DO YOU THINK THE GARAGE HAS ANY RIGHT TO CHARGE ME ANY MORE MONEY AS THIS IS ALSO WHAT I'M AFRAID OF THE MOST

thanks lee

i use trolley AND 10 barrels what do you think of nemo, bipper

or is this a silly move?

also considered berlingo, partner    nissan kubbistar(kangoo) 1.5dci meant to get 50 mpg 600-800 payload

also astra van keeps springing to mind as i could fit in my single en-bloc garage (but don't know how praticle and they are quite expensive to lease compared to others)
thanks lee.

think of any expansion plans. get a bigger van than you need right now. once you have got into a lease you can't change it.

theres a small o ring just inside the pump where the throttle link enters, renewing it will cure your leak .    if its sluggish the timing should be checked , this isnt 5 minutes to do , needs special tools to do it also.

Renault are doing 0% APR on all new vans 'till end of june.

Regarding van, it's your call mate, only you can decide what's best for you & your circumstances. Personally, I think the bipper would be a pain after a while, it's a bit too small. You just have to work out your needs for now & the future (if you plan to expand) regarding van size & payload.

It's a buyers market now for new vans, you may qualify for the 2k scrappage allowance?
There are also plenty of second hans vans around, some desperate to get shut!

I think the berlingo/kangoo/connect size van would do you fine. I have a kangoo, 665kg payload & have run a 400ltr van mount from it for 5 years with no problem & carry full trad gear too. ;)

aj, macmac, mike
thanks for your advice

I think i was focusing on astra van as it would go in garage.

mike hi-ace is a brillant van i've been told last for years can't beat japanese motoring.

i think as said berlingo, partner, kubbistar(nissan) are all contenders and i think contract hire seems to be best option.

none of the options are perfect all have a downside >:(

see what tomorrow brings with my van ::)

hope it's sorted with no more to pay.

Will limp on with it while i can check out dealerships.

I'l keep you all posted guys

a big thankyou to you all for your advice.

I need a holiday big time going away mid august to yarmouth all i can afford if things keep going pear shaped i've told mrs she'l have to take her mum in my place :(

Oh well what these things are sent to try us ;D
