Varitech Hot..
« on: June 11, 2009, 07:37:59 pm »
I have been thinking about a 'Varitech bolt-on' hot system. Have spent ages trawling through loads of posts about it all...but and here it is...

I still do not know what the real day to day advantages are...I am not knocking 'hot'...the very opposite really...but I would love someone on here to be so kind to do a little write up about hot and it's pro's and cons.

If I were in the UK I would think I would try to get a day out with a 'hot operator' ;D to see it in action..but alas...very few wfp here in Holland and fewer hot I would suspect plus all they want to talk about is cheese, cloggs and the price of windmills!!

Thanks
Dave...

As far as i am aware, you can buy a Webasto and a box made by them for it to sit in. I am sure this is what a dealer in the U.K said.
I have had a hot system since i started out waterfed pole. In the winter it keeps the pole and hoses warm and supple and the windows dry up slightly quicker. In the summer it removes baked on bird poo alot easier. First cleans are a bit quicker, and i find that on ali frames that oxidize, if you scrub and rinse well on the first clean, then use hot thereafter   you dont have the problems of runs and spots on the subsequent cleans, imo.
The cons, well it costs about £5 a day to run, i dont notice this and i dont know if thats true, as my system is plugged into the vans diesel system so have no idea really the true cost. Would i go back to cold, in a word no!
www.webasto.com/home/en/homepage.html if you put in Netherlands it will give you a dealer near by to you. You could have a word and see if they would fit one for you to your system, im sure you could find somebody that would.

No, you would have to call a local dealer/supplier to find out. The 5kw ones, so good enough for a one man set up are/were around £800-£1000, but that was not in the box. If the box is alot of money, you could make one up yourself i suppose.

NWH,
I can send you a hose and reel but it's not worth £500 quid.

I've rung webasto dealers and can get a thermo 90s with header tank and heat exchanger. The same stuff as a major player uses for £1556 Inc vat. And they vary from dealer to dealer. I will ring and get a price on the water station.

Can you use both the Thermo 50 and the Thermo 90S for WFP? And if so what would be the difference between the two?

I think we should do some research to find out which webasto dealer will sell them for the best price. I dont think that there would be a lot invloved in fittint them to a system.

There are a few places that sell Webasto systems, when i phoned round last year, there wasnt much between them all. I suppose like most brands, the dealers have set prices. They come with instructions on how to install them.

As per previous post I have rung all the webasto dealers listed. The best price was from advanced auto electrics in Manchester, they priced a new thermo 90s at £1056.0 plus vat and the worst was £1900 plus vat.
I'm a tight arse with cash and want the best deal.

Was that for the whole system? Ie all the hoses, wiring looms ect ect? Was the heat adjustable? Do you get the frost protection and timer with it?

The same dealer could do a 4 kw webasto at aprox £400 plus vat and a 5 kw at £600 plus vat. I'm looking at Eberspacher dealers to see what prices they come back with.
It's the same as when Wfp first came out. In a few months we will be building diy for a few pounds.
