new wfp New
« on: April 24, 2005, 12:46:23 am »
Only been in the job for a month or two and having just bought a wfp from jontywilson@fsmail.net ebay item :

for the grand total of £700 I feel I must write an honest opinion of my first couple of days being a wfp user.

It has not made me faster(I use wfp upstairs-traditional downstairs)

I seem to spend a lot of time explaining to customers about the fact of they might get spotting the first couple of times that I use the pole

Also the amout of time still explaining about the new hse rules about ladders

I get good feedback about I can get to the window others cleaners couldnt reach !!!!!!!!

So far lost one customer(I did not want...Bonus!!!!!) He didnt like his windows being left wet

And one whoose windows,I must admit looked bad even though I had done it,streaks!!!,spotting and she said heres your money love. Can you come back in a month and try and get the spotting(Must of taught her well)next time. But I didnt take her money then apolagised(spelt wrong)for the poor job but she then came out with dont worry love I know them people behing desks dont give a d**n but we dont want to lose our nice window cleaner.Makes you feel good even though thats only second time I have ever seen her

My missus seems to be happier that now its no ladders

I am getting recomendations from the customers that I have done because I dont peer into their bedrooms?????

so thats just an honest opinion from a new user of the pole

Never mention about spots unless they bring the subject up  ;D Then explain that spots could happen on the first couple of cleans because your CLEANING THE FRAMES as part of the whole cleaning process and the odd bit of grime might run down from frames till there totally clean, again after a couple of visits/cleans.

What i do on new cleans is take a bucket of pure water with a small mix of GG4 and dip the brush into the bucket now and again. This really brings the frames up well and after a couple of visits you probably wont have to do this again.

I decided from the start i wasn't going to spend ages talking about europeon ladder laws, i decided to have a care free attitude and keep the explinations short and sweet, some customers i never even explained what the new method was.  Infact i normally say im too lazy to climb ladders and most just laugh.

Keep at it, the first few cleans are the hardest, but trust me when you get use to using it and you've done them a few times it becomes much faster than ladder work in most case's.

I still use the ladders on a few houses because i think ladder work on some is still faster plus one or 2 houses i have the windows never come up well. Again its no big deal, as the months go by your get use to whats the best method to use through trail and error. And it does get much faster.

hi ken and welcome to the real world of wfp, i've been using it now for just over 1 month  now so these are my replies to your comments...........

It has not made me faster(I use wfp upstairs-traditional downstairs

it wont be faster on the first clean, takes time to do a good job and rinse well also takes time getting used to the system sometimes you may be a bit clumbsy with it but that will change....... but oh boy wait until your next clean then you will find it alot faster.

I seem to spend a lot of time explaining to customers about the fact of they might get spotting the first couple of times that I use the pole
yes, this is essential that you do this but you will only need to do it once, the next time round your customers will be saying to you "how you getting on with your system ducky?" it can also help if you give them a fact sheet explaining wfp (if you don't have one let me know and i will email you one)

Also the amout of time still explaining about the new hse rules about ladders
the fact sheet should cover that one

I get good feedback about I can get to the window others cleaners couldnt reach !!!!!!!!

dito on that 1, in my case i had 3 customers who had some unreachable windows, not been cleaned for years, UNTIL NOW, bare in mind these will need more rinsinsing 1st time, the customers are well happy now

So far lost one customer(I did not want...Bonus!!!!!) He didnt like his windows being left wet
lost 3 myself, but have gained so many more better ones at better prices, those that do cancel may be using wfp as an excuse to get rid of the w/c, does happen so don't worry on that score

And one whoose windows,I must admit looked bad even though I had done it,streaks!!!,spotting
rinse...rinse...rinse...rinse and rinse again

My missus seems to be happier that now its no ladders
mine too

I am getting recomendations from the customers that I have done because I dont peer into their bedrooms
yes you will find that, nice bonus there, do'nt forget to up the price on the new ones afterall you have to recuperate your £700 somehow ;D

so thats just an honest opinion from a new user of the pole
and that's my honest reply to you, hope it helps and stick with it, it's well worth it in the long run.

Hi Ken
I was watching that on ebay. Is it worth the money? did it come with all that you need?

Cheers

hi steve, i know jonty well, he is a good guy to deal with and yes you will get everything you need to start up and his backup (after sales service is second to non) the trolley he uses is a small fold away type, personally i prefer the larger type available from machine mart as they are great for rough terrian and will go up steps etc, of course this depends on room in your car/van to carry it

Hi Jay
Thanks for that. When you dont know these systems it is not always esay to understand if everything is included. I contacted a feller who was selling a system who said that everything was included. I found out that it was everything to do the job but not to filter the water.
These things take a lot of looking into.
Cheers

true matt but it's a good way to get started and you could always add a ro unit at a later date, i use the di and for 6 weeks now my reading is still 000 so thats ok, however i am looking into upgrading to ro, the thing i like about di is that it's instant pure water, no waiting around.

Hi guys
Steveyboy the set up is all there  had to buy absolutely nothing there is even a few spares. The service I have had from jonty is spot on he gave me a couple of hours showing me how to use it take it apart etc.I have an astra estate and lift the trolley with the water container on it and put it stright in the car. After the first day he even called around to my home to make sure everything was allright(luckily we only live about 4 miles apart)So as for back-up he is is very very good.I am really glad I bought mine from him.

Thanks for the replys guys and I will stick at it and improve and speed up(slowly) ;D

Welcome to the world of WFP ;D

But watch out for those oxidized frames :-\

I've been going 12 months, paid out about £1500 after I've allowed for extra bits I've bought (water butt, bigger & better Battery, 50 metres of top of the range non kink hose & hose reel etc).
The tax man will see a jump of around 5k on my income in my first year.

As important as the safety angle is, the bottom line is £££££ and it's making me a lot more £££££ than window cleaning was before.

Ian

You will know them when you see them.
If you WFP them the water running down the window will go a chalky white colour.
I find on these if you do clean the frames clean them well and move on to the next window and do the frames, then when finished go back and just do the glass.
Or like many others do try not get the frames wet and just do the glass.

Or clean these window the traditional way although they still make white marks on your cloths.
