Perspex roof cleaning, How much?
« on: May 08, 2009, 02:51:38 pm »
Afternoon guys, been ask to clean the roof on this covered walk way and wondered how much you would charge?

Job is a one off for now,

Inside and outside to be cleaned,

Perspex panels,

And can only be done on a Sunday or early morning,

All of it can be poled I have access to the roofs to the left & right in pic 3, but have to wear a harness to do it that way.

Good job I have a harness!

Poling form the roofs will get to 90% of the roof, the rest can be done from the sides where you can just about get a ladder through the gaps.

Got to go back tomorrow so will get some more pics

How much??

Cheers
Stuart

I didn't want to get involved here :) But I can see how I would do the inside, no probs, how do you intend to do the outside mate? Looks abit dodgey "Elf n' Saftey" blah blah

I wouldn't want to do it - looks quite restricted, and therefore would be asking for at least  £200.

Messing up a Sunday, cleaning it like a conservatory clean (framework too) soaking wet doing the insides. I wouldn't do that on my own (elf and safety!!!). So say £300 of which I'd pay a mate £100 to help. I'd want it done in 4 hours (8 man- hours) and off for a couple of jars too. Make it a well-paying "bit orf a larf"!

If I was scratching for work then £200, out of which pay a mate £50...
It's a game of three halves!

£200 minimum jobs like this often take longer than anticipated

it must be worth 250 quid

i would point out to them that sometimes that perspex doesnt come up that great as it fades and becomes cloudy with time

My quote would be £300.00. and I'd use a small tower scaffold for the inside.
Probably need to soak with TFR or degrease to help shift the algae.

£450

Take it or leave it.

Specialized equipment, harness, tower, cleaning agent, inconvenient time.

Or let some other fool undercut!

That is one pig of a job.
To keep this short you should be thinking of using a cherry picker so you can get directly over the top, and possibly pre spray, scrub and wash off.
Seriously that gap looks too narrow to squeeze between and so if you want to use a 20 foot on the horizontal then you'll be in pain by the end.
£400 if you're doing it the long way
£250 plus hire of equipment other wise

I do stuff like this regularly and i would say at least £500 plus vat.

People expect to pay that sort of money in the commercial world, that is one place where they realise it is a 2 man out of hours job, which they expect to pay a day for it to be done properly.

PJ spot on this time

Looking at the pictures again i would say even more, hard to say how much more without seeing the job.

Being commercial they probably wont except one quote and will arrange for three companies to quote for the job, providing they have all got adequate insurance then they will accept the cheapest quote, especially as they only see it as a one off job they wont want to spend a penny more than they have to, so it really depends on how badly you want the work and how much profit you feel you need to make, with the right equipment this job will not take any longer than one day and shouldn't be that difficult.
