« on: April 30, 2009, 07:53:26 pm »
Now i have a fair few commercial jobs, BUT have never been asked to sign a contract

i picked up a job this week and they have sent me a contract to sign

now they want to me to sign it and return a copy of my PL insurance

i have sat down and read the contract and its of course leaning towards them, but access issue are not mentioned and i could have probs with them, i guess they will not care about that though

Funny this has come up. I picked up a small commercial job last week and to my suprise a contract arrived in the post today.
This contract isn't how i would have worded it but it's for such a small amount, of work and pay, that i'm interested in giving it a go.

Not just you Matt but others too! I can't believe that anyone takes on commercial work without some for of written agreement I.E contract. If a commercial site did not request PL insurance certificate or MS/RA, then we would offer and issue to them.
Before you go signing the contract that has been sent, do you agree with it? Do you need to add anything to it? Do you not understand some of the things they have put? Ask yourself those sort of questions.  You mention access problem, dont sit there thinking well they won't care....point it out to them and explain the issue with it. If you don't you will have problems in the future with this job.Get it 100% in your mind and then talk to them. Do not carry out any work until you have a "both party" agreed signed contract. Make sure they know and agree to your payment terms too. Remember a contract is an agreement bewteen 2 or more parties, not something for one to issue and the other to "just agree" even if they don't :)

I have a couple of contract jobs and what i do when they send the contract.
I read it and if its to my liking i will then sign it but if its not i will ask them to add or remove bits.

The last contract i signed i had several bits taken out and a few bits put in.

They don't seem to mind amending the contract and if both party's are happy its all good.
