SLX update - 6 weeks on.
« on: April 29, 2009, 06:53:19 pm »
Thought I'd post my experience of the SLX - 6 weeks on.

My round is three quarters domestic and one quarter commercial.
My highest stuff is a third floor block of 20 flats and a few three storey farm houses.
Previous pole - fishing pole for 2 years and an unger twist lock ali thing before that for 2 years.

Problems:-

Errrr.... ummmm...... can't think of any.

Things learned along the way:-

90% of the time I use it on three or four sections instead of five or six. (or seven inc the g/f extension) The ability to lengthen or shorten the pole with extra or less extensions is easy and saves unnecessary weight. I can clean the three storey block of flats with five sections tho' where the ground falls away it's easier with the six as standard.

I bought a 30mm rubber end stop at B&Q and drilled it through for use on 3 or 4 sections as the original (for five or six sections) is obviously a bit big.

For me it's faster than my fishing pole tho' for a long run of ground floor work (one commercial) I still use the top section of my fishing pole. On 3 or 4 sections it is just as stiff as the fishing pole.

I am happier to close windows with it or pivot it on a conservatory roof edge to reach windows with it as the f/pole would occasionally snap!

The clamps are superb and easy to adjust.

No aches or pains.

I hope I get three years out of it but even if it's only 12 or 18 months before buying a top section or two then that'll be fair I reckon.
It's a game of three halves!

I have a smilar round and am thinking of buying an slx pole. What length are you using, do you live anywhere near Worthing?
Cheers,
Ross

No, Bristol.

I bought the 35 ft version but use the top 4 sections (20ft) for 95% of my work and add and take away the other sections as I need them.

The clamps have been changed on the latest model and Alex has just sent me a set in the hope that they will reduce wear.
It's a game of three halves!
