modern cleaners too safe?
« on: April 28, 2009, 06:26:54 pm »
I bought a bottle of Oilflow 101 expecting marvelous things after reading all the claims.
I have to say that so far it's rubbish - can't even shift sellotape marks from upvc. I reckon todays cleaners are so eco friendly and namby pamby that they are just about useless. I also have a bottle of mineral deposit remover that cost me close on thirty quid. I reckon a £2.50 bottle of killrock or harpic would work far better. ::)

the only thing that impressed me was crystal clear from window clean centre, shifted stains  on glass from concrete surround, heavy limescale deposits!

anything else i think you'd be better off with household products
doktor power is really good £5 biggish tub, made by jml woolworths use to sell :(  there website has an add i'm sure

that might be worth you investing in cleans upvc pretty well, lime lite for most limescale marks, or crystal clear 550 as mentioned hope this info helps
thanks lee

Don't know about being too safe but it's just how many things are these days- A DIRTY BIG FAT CON!!!!!!!!!.

You won't come across many things that live up to their own marketing hype I'm affraid.

Look at GG3- they list a multitude of benefits for this product- kind to hands, less blead, rubber just glides across the glass, rubber lasts longer etc.etc. All total crap & just not true. The only thing it does better is make a nice gleam on the glass.

Look at spray-on bath cleaning products- spray on, rinse off, job done! What a load of lies. I've never used one to this day that doesn't also require scrubbing with a sponge. Spray on, rinse off & still be left with a dirty great big tide-mark! The worst thing is, I still buy it! ;D

Yes, anually. ;D

Deffo recommend the northern stuff Dave. up to now it's out-performing dowex quite well but I've not done the whole bag yet so I don't want to spout too much but between me & you, go north! ;)

I recently used brick acid on a very badly stained window (20% Hydrochloric acid). Dirt cheap and it worked a treat. Need Gloves, goggles etc when using it tho.

How did you manage to wreck the window?
I use crystal clear and have found it the only product to shift stains that all others, mdr/cillit bang etc wouldn't touch

Easy, applied it to an old single pane and it turned it milky - the pane next to it was fine so it had to be a different type of glass it was on an old building.

bad trippy

I went to GG4 for the switch to wfp to reduce spotting from the seals on the first cleans and carried on with it for my trad. jobs. I've just gone back to fairy for all the permanent trad stuff because it glides so much better.

MDR = rubbish. I've got three quarters of a bottle and it's rubbish - I reckon T-cut is the same sort of stuff (it's got that look and smell about it) I'd try it but I'm nervous of scratching the glass.

Thompson's UPVC restorer - OK but could do better.
It's a game of three halves!

Fleetclean tfr - another pile of **ap! Use it 20 to 1 or even 100 to 1 the label says.
Only works for me if it's mixed 50:50 minimum.
Might work on trucks but it's no good on conservatory roofs at those dilution rates.
