Things you have done for others while window cleaning.
« on: April 17, 2009, 09:05:11 pm »
Been cleaning new cleans all week, been a long slog I get to the third from last house today: inside clean for an old lady, finish by 3pm nice I thought.

I went into this dear old ladys house and there was mess everywhere, totally shocked people are forgotten and left to get on with it, she had a stair lift that her mum had before she died, and she has to push past to get up stairs on the stairs there must have been about 3/4 inches of leaves twigs and god knows what. I did the inside windows in about 20 mins, then spent the next 2 and a half hours clearing her stairs so it would make her life easier and safer, I put back up her curtains that had half fallen down and snapped.
Bless her she tried to pay me more, I did not take it, but I will sleep easy tonight knowing I put a little happiness into this ladys life and made going up and down stairs safer and easyier for her  ;D

It's sad when we as window cleaners have to act as 'social services' or 'family'.

I've done similar.

I had an elderly married couple; one was deaf and the husband was blind; honest.

The husband died and the deaf lady got extremely depressed; she was in her 80s.

One afternoon when I was cleaning her windows she asked me to help her find her hearing aid.  The poor lass hadn't even washed or dressed; she was still in her dressing gown.

I searched everywhere; under beds, sofas, cupboards; everywhere; and after about an hour of looking she tells me she found it; it was in her dressing gown pocket!!!!

i have fix a plastic type roof for one of my elderly customers when bad winds hit it, also fixed another old girls gate, wired a new TV in for another, basically if any of the old girls need a little help i will do it, i like to do my good bit cause in my mind one day it will make up for some of those bad things Ive done in the past problem is there ain't enough years left to make up fully but its worth a try.

Workwise i don't offer different kinds of help cos i'm slow doing what i don't know. And i usually don't know what i'm doing.

So true the saying "there's more happiness in giving than there is in revieving." it may not pay the bills but then all the cash in the world won't make you happy.

Gave one old girl a lift up to the shops and another I saw on the bus stop a lift back to her house.
It's a game of three halves!

When we worked off the ladders, and before the days of UPVC windows, many times had to climb in through a window to open door for customer that had locked themselves out.

On one occasion I had to kick the back door in for an old lady as she stood right by me, so she could get in.

Every month I either change light bulbs, turn their mattress, change the nets/curtains or both, bring shopping with me etc.

I don't mind, they are my "care in the community" customers.

ive done that for a customer, broke into her garage so she could get in kitchen, and got paid for it :)
