cleaning windows inside
« on: April 09, 2005, 09:06:26 pm »
Hi all.
I have noticed that some of you chaps charge more for cleaning the inside of the windows. I always say if it cost say £10 for outside then £10 for in its the same amount of glass.  I always ask the owner of the house to remove any dust collecters they have on the sills, can someone tell how i can get around charging more.

I charge additional 20% to clean inside,
a) it takes longer because there is always something in the way and you have to be extra careful while going around that the equipment on your belt don't knock something off
b) some windows you have to reach for
c) in the winter you get too hot because you are dressed for outside and in the summer you get too hot just because.
And if they ask me to clean the inside of a conservatory in the summer (and they only ask you too in the summer) I tell them no because I'm not insured, they normally sulk for a while but they get over it.

The secret is not doing as you like but liking what you do

Just explain it's a bigger pain in the bottom to do the inside.  You've got to wear over-boots (the plastic bag type thing) or remove your shoes/boots.  Often in winter you've got to remove your belt kit, outer clothing and replace your belt kit.

And at times they're far dirtier on the inside than out - expecially kitchen grease stained windows.

Always charge more for 'in' than 'out'.  If anything it's a deterrent from being asked at all!

i allways charge DOUBLE then add 5 quid on

thus a 10 quid outside job becomes

10 quid for the outside
25 quid for the insides

my reasons, you need to be carefull with your water, you dont want dirty water on the wallpaper / carpet / curtains etc

People allways make a cuppa and talk to you for ages

even though i ask them to move things of the cills, they allways forget rooms and i have to do it

i dont really like doing the insides, BUT at that price its worth it

Funny thing is, i do a fair few every 3 months or so, its a nice little earner and i can do them in the rain :)

And really charge 'em if they are heavy smokers, cuz the windows will run yellow - yuk!

Hey Chaps;

I almost always do the insides on all customers over here because we do the outsides only every 6 months on residentials.

I am an expert on insides.

We first of all raise the window; vacuum the tract out and clean it (the bottom tract of the widow sill), then close the window.

Lay down a tarp to protect the floor in front of the window.

Clean the window carefully; some times objects need to be moved.

Close and lock the window.  Before all outside cleaned, the outside covering (called a screen) is removed and sat to the side of the window.

It will require cleaning with a hose and then wiped off.

Almost all windows have screens over here because we have bugs that fly inside.

If neccessary; treat with vinegar sprayed on windows; let it soak.

Scrub all windows really thouroughly and then squeegee off.

My plan as hiring a team is always a man for outside and a woman for inside.

I think the opposite from you; the inside is fast; The outside has all the stains.

The inside has always been my specialty because I am small and can squeeze in any display window; home window; etc.

I hate doing outsides.  Too dirty. :o

For that reason a husband wife team is really helpful.

Hugs,

Texas Girl :-*

hi, you should charge more for inside work for all the reasons other guys have mentioned takes longer ornaments on shelves, things in way nets curtains etc kitchen windows always extra dirty i soap up first then use 6 inch scraper (always wet never do dry) then soap up and squeegee off.
I always charge 1 and half times for inside work if £10 out £15 inside if the customer doesn't like that then i don't do it, i'm not that blunt to them, but i've had my fingers burnt many times on inside work and find 1 and a half times the best solution if you do it and find its quicker, then charge em less it's easier to drop your price than put it up?

yep...been there too...now I just don't 'do' insides.....for the time taken and all the hassle....I could have done another 3 outsides.....anyway, these days, they wouldn't take too kindly to WFP on their carpets...lol
