Starting out in Cyprus
« on: April 08, 2005, 05:15:40 am »
Hi,
This is my first posting to this fantastic site.

I moved from Leeds where i was a sparky to sunny Cyprus last year and have been cleaning since christmas time.

Now spring is here the work is coming in slowly but surely.

I've been asked to clean a couple of houses with shutters, one i did yeserday and it took me ages and was really hard work.

Does anyone know an easy way to clean window shutters ?
Also anyone got any tips on the best way to clean windows in the sun & heat ?

A hard job but someone has to do it.   8)

Ok its 7.15  here the sun is up the sky is blue and im off to work  ;D

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

hi mark, welcome to cleanitup, you lucky thing working in the sun, i worked in tenerife for 7 months once (not window cleaning though), it was great, as for cleaning glass in the sun i imagine you would need to keep the windows very wet?

hi mark. well done for having the guts to start up in another country. have you thought of trying a water fed pole on windows and shuters. im sure the sun would make no diference then as you use no detergents. i think you would find it easier work in that heat you will be geting soon.  :)
i am interested to know how you are doing and what you can  charge. please tell us more.

Hi,
A water fed pole could be the answer, but im still pretty new to this and still trying to perfect the traditional way of cleaning windows.
What cost would a basic water fed system cost, and can i get one in Cyprus ?

At the moment i have about 30 customers mostly residential, and some small shopfronts as well.
Prices vary from £4.50 houses to £25.00 houses but the average cost seems to work out at 50c a window be it large or small ( swings & roundabouts )

I haven't moved here to get rich the minimum wage is £2.15 an hour.

I was offered a job sparkying paid £30.00 a day for 8 hours. £600.00 a month.

So im happy to make £40.00 a day and spend the afternoon in the pool. 8)
Still some way to go yet, haven't really pushed it most customers are word of mouth.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

sounds great mark. wish i was there.  :)
£40 should be easy to earn in a morning.
if your not that botherd about money i suspect you have no mortgage and no family.
i sometimes wish my life was as simple as that.
the wfp system would be about £1500 plus the cost of a van to carry equipment and water tank.

 are you in ayia napa.
all the best. have fun mate

Welcome to Cleanitup

Please be aware that sarcastic remarks like that and 'I'll be in the pool by 2.00pm' are likely to see you removed from this site ;)

I would have thought that washing them down with a soft bristle brush and wiping them dry with a Microfibre cloth would be the best bet.

Regards

Mike

Cyprus_Mark,

Have you thought about targetting the British Army Married Quarters?

They'll speako the same lingo as yourself and you can charge them British prices on their window cleaning.

another cheaper way is to connect a brush like you wash the car with onto a hose connected to the tap - ok if water isnt in short supply .
you don't have to use the PURE water for this .

cost £20 max

once you have got rid of most of the dirt give them a wipe over with a cloth , then clean windows like you do .
 :( raining again
