i have just been reading some info on the host dry carpet cleaner,does it do exactly what it says on the tin ? is it any good or does anyone know how it compares to wet cleaning.
my first attempt at carpet cleaning was about eight years ago and lasted all of a month when my very expensive extracta was stolen out of the back of my van (i had only done three jobs) ending my short career as a carpet cleaner.
i have decided to give it another go allongside pressure washing and am now researching all available machines so any advice gratefully received.

A great deal will depend on your budget, but having said that, you could still go over £3k for a portable. The choice has to depend on how seriously you intend the c/c to be in terms of your business. If you scroll back a couple of months and follow the posts from Joe Hatton and Mike Osborne you will find a great deal of " no bull...t " posting.

Forget the Host for domestic carpet cleaning. It has its limited uses in the commercial field as an in between extraction clean maintainer, but thats about it.
I used to have this system along with my extraction system, sold it as I never came across any opportuities to use it. They will tell you anything to get a sale, listen to experienced CC's who have been around a bit.

I have the Envirodri which is similar to the Host and like Host they do the cleaning "sponges".
I have cleaned 2 or 3 carpets with the Envirodri and sponges and they do work.
However it does'nt cut the mustard when compared to good extraction machines.

I use my Envirodri like most others on here do - for agitation of prespray before extraction..

Peter i use both systems  but if i had to give you any advice it would be start with hot water extraction then if you see a market in Swansea etc then work out then wether or not to invest in the whole idea of dry carpet cleaning.It is more expensive in terms of sponges(host envirodry or whatever) so you would need to charge more to make it worth your while whereas the cost of microsplitters etc are very small in comparism.Regards Alan(swindon)

I agree with above. I'd plumb for good portable, just depends on your budget really. If you can stretch to a rotary machine too for low moisture cleaning it would serve you better for the same kind of work. There have been a few threads on portables over the past month and which to buy with lots of advice.
