I dont touch them with wfp keep to doing them trad.   Over time wfp helps to rot the wood.

Please explain your findings in greater detail! I think it is you talking rot not wfp rotting the wood.

If you have not yet masterd the art of cleaning georgian windows (& leaded ) don't comment, just comment on the things you do know about ;D

I've a fairly big account with old Georgian wooden windows; they're deeply inset into the frames; which are in fairly good nick; and I couldn't do this after five months with WFP, so went back to 'trad' for this account.

But modern Georgian windows; especially the UPVC ones; cause no problems.

Why is it when anyone suggests wfp may hasten rotting of wooden frames/sills, several people jump on their back to aggresively deny the possibility?

Because common-sense tells you that it's no different that from a quick rain shower!

It's daft suggesting otherwise.

Sometimes, when I can't be bothered to unscrew my RO from the tap, I use pure-water to water my plants with.

It doesn't kill them; it's just soft water; like rain!

Sorry Tosh I simply don't agree.  A quick rain shower produces a mild constant flow of water in droplets onto the glass/frame giving time for it to disperse compared to the litres of water pushed directly onto them with wfp in a sudden gush of forced powered water.

If I was in a rain shower for 5 minutes then yes I'd get wet with the ten pints of water rained on me in that time, but if I had ten pints poured directly over my head in 30 seconds I'd be soaked.

Ive reverted back to trad on alot of my work as ive never been happy with wfp. After six months the sills are grey and very grotty. So if they are do this to pvc what are they going to do to poor old wood.

I don't think the rain we have been having over the last few years could be classed as a shower, also any exposed timber will rot over time and wfp will not make it rot any faster than rain water. What usually speeds up windows rotting is the dust, dirt & vegitation etc that lie in the corners of frames that remain damp, so having nice clean wooden frames should help them to last longer ;D

 Scientific replys only please ;)

Where is your scientific proof ::)

Dust certainly won't speed up rotting as it absorbs water, ditto dirt. Vegitation? If by vegitation you mean moss/algae then yes this will certainly speed up wood rot but then vegitation is reliant on water and what better supply than a monthly soaking via wfp? In a dry summer moss, algae and any other vegitation you care to mention will die back if starved of water...I'm no Alan Titchmarsh but that's my finding when I come back from holiday and the next door neighbours have forgotten to water our garden ::)

Anyway, aside from vegitation I'd ask one question....

If rainwater is so harmless why do all houses have gutters?

WFP brush loosens any flakey paint on poorly maintained, painted, wooden, window frames.

Copius amounts of water being pumped under flakey paint gets trapped, forcing even more paint to become loose and exposed to the elements of the British mixture of weather and accelerates the rotting process of the wooden, window frames alledgedly (not scientifically proven, yet).
