we have just got the new council run wardens who hand tickets out no matter what your doing,  what is the law on working and loading does anyone have the real information as I will have to drop a load of work if they ticket me as I refuse to pay £60 a time

We've got council run traffic wardens round our way, and they are fine if they know your working.It was a bit manic when they first started though.

They are probably just a bit keen - if it is a major problem go and see your local councillor. They should be particularly helpful with an upcoming election

Round our way they seem ok provided we don't take the proverbials and go and have a coffee or the like.

 :)got told to move by a pub landlord once  when i was parked in a loading bay council traffic warden came past asked him what score was and he told me i could stay there for  two hours after that i would get a ticket but could be different were you are pete

Even if you've a sign-written van, just stick a large note on your dashboard saying something like,

'Window Cleaner at work.  Van will be moved by 10.00 am.  Phone 070708909090 if there's any problems'.

Also, what about starting early?  Traffic wardens don't seem to start work till around 9.00 am.  I guess they'd get upset if you're constricting traffic at a rush hour time.

just spoken to my loocal traffic warden who has said that ;

1. double yellows are a definate no and you would be ticketed.

2. Single yellows are considered a waiting zone if you are "in sight" of the  van  then a good warden will look for you first.

3. The biggest recommendation she made is a sign in the front of the car to say you are cleaning

4.expired parking tickets -always have that sign saying you are cleaning windows but if you over run its worth complaining to the council who issued the tickets

5.Police issued tickets -you are screwed

In most of the London Boroughs there is no mercy. They will even ticket a hearse outside a church. You are not given any lee way whatsoever.
And remember we have to pay £5 congestion charge ( soon to be £8 ) every day if we go into the zone. There are plans afoot to make that bigger as well.

i do a job in islinton north london had troble with wardens,got in touch with council and i was able to buy a permit that aloud me to park for a week for ownly £5

the permit who did the council start doing them as we have been told that residents only and only 1 road can be on the permit

If you have to use ladders (and obviously wfp) you need to be as near the job as poss - you can stop on double yellows in certain circumstances - a good idea on jobs that take a while is phone the local nick and tell them what you are doing and the reg no of your van - a few cones might make it all look a bit more professional too - if you do get a ticket don't phone up to try and get it revoked, walk in straight away to the council office or local nick - there are systems in place to void them before the paper trail gets started. That's about all you can do in the first instance apart from having eyes in the back of your head to see them looming towards you, all mad eyed and grinning, with a fist full of brand new crispy white tickets

My traffic wardens a smashing guy cus I clean his windows,his mate is a little different though.

stick a note in the window to the traffic warden in the west end,and see what happens,come back,no car!they collect them for you!
