STEVE-UK Hydra Pole
« on: March 19, 2009, 06:42:07 pm »
Hi Steve, just wondering if you got the pole teething problems sorted by Brodex, as I am considering buying the 18 ft fibreglass Hydra Pole.

Thanks, dd

My suggestion would be to not buy anything made by Brodex, Ive had bad experience with them, and they dont keep their word. For an 18ft pole I suggest Facelift or Ionic. And for a 30ft, Ionic, Facelift and Gardiners all have something to offer.

i have just recieved the replacement which is slightly better to the 1st,
imo the black gloss finish makes the pole stick when extending and closing, the sections dont seem even causing it to stick although the 1 section of the 1st pole is now bedded in its nice to use

i would wait a while for brodex to iron out the problems before buying one,but once sorted it will be the best value pole for you money

Just after a pole around 18ft for domestic. Xtels don't seem to last long. Had 18ft universal for 2 years and looking for something similar in 4 sections to give shorter closed length for downstairs.

Hydra fit all these criteria and comes with 1 year guarantee and not overly expensive. Reluctant to part with cash though as it is a new product and looking for some positive feedback from users first.

Currently use 30ft tucker for higher work. Will consider something like slx in future when funds increase a bit and hopefully Alex will have some in stock!

Thanks, will have to give my universal plenty of tlc in meantime and speak nicely to it.

According to their website you pay extra if you don't use their online order service for the pole, e.g if you place a telephone order you pay extra.

Probably when you add the delivery to 126 you get £140+VAT. Seem to have given you their online price for a telphone order. Bargain!

Everyone says facelift poles are good, but apparently the 18ft only extends to around 15ft. Also mainly the carbonfibre that people rave about. Just hoping to get a not too expensive pole for domestic that is reasonably durable.

I was after one of their poles once then i found out they were giving away poles at their demos! Phoned them up and they pretended not to know anything about it.  ::)

I will never touch their products.

I tend to stick with Gardiners - no haggling, no bending of the truth, just quality sevice.

i had a quick look on the facelift stool at the show and the collapsed length & price tag put me straight off so swiftly moved on

The brodex has the red warning strips and removable sections

Alex says he is bringing out some new poles (when?). Am hoping one will suit domestic work at a lower price tag than the current slx.

Would consider an ally pole for domestic as they are hard wearing but do not like constantly having hands stained by the aluminum (because of its toxicity).

my harris started to stain. if you wash it after every day for a couple of minutes and wipe with old cloth the staining stops after a few days. like aluminium windows keep scrubbing them and the colour run stops and they clean fine.

cover the harris pole with Heat shrink and it will stop happening, there was a post about this last year

I like the slx but not the clamps. Forever loosening and not the easiest to use over conservatories or extensions as the clamps tend to bang off the gutters etc. That said the pole is great and I would buy another if it had different clamps. I like dealing with Gardiners and Sure Clean two companies that give excellent service and advice.

I just got a hydra pole and thought i would get a goose neck just in case i ever need one got the pole a few days ago
only to find that if you go for the goose neck you can not swap to the normal angle crank (plastic one) phoned brodex  to see if they would swap the last section of the pole as i dont really need the goose neck and was told
they would not swap pole but they
would send me a new end for the one i had so i could cut the end off  and re glue     £16 then goose neck scrap
or
or another last section  £30 which is what i went for

Is this normal when you want to swap from one to another or is it just brodex

was not happy and told them so crap way of doing it not making them interchangeable or just there way off make more money or is it the norm

Got the new section no hole in the end off the pole for pipe to go through so now have to get my drill out this is the first time used brodex not a good start

I had the commercial gooseneck and didnt like either

so i took the nut off the gooseneck out and matched the thread at a local nut and bolt store, I bought the bolt and chopped the the hex bolt off and srewed that into the pole, unscrewed the adapter out of the brush and screwed that onto the modified bolt then the plastic gooseneck onto that, feels very solid and you dont loose any length!

Are you saying the big thread on the end of the goose neck (where the brush screws on)  screws off the arm of the goose neck if so i understand whwt you are saying

Poor design, poor service, poor R&D.
I've said this before, when you look across the broad range of suppliers & products of wfp equipment, it's easy to spot the ones who still have hands-on w/c experience from the ones who "think" they know what consumers require!!
Eventually it will backfire on the latter as word will quickly spread for a bad product/service & there are not many (if any) who praise brodex on here. ;)
