Were they the ones doing the low prices?

If so - just shows if you sell low (cut the profit margins), then when sales slow down (recession) you are really struggling.

Perhaps a lesson for us - keep the prices right.

Half way thro March and its a better month already then the whole of last March.
Im not bragging - just inspiring confidence amongst ourselves.

Well it is Friday afternoon and it's been a bit quiet.

If that's true it will be a shame. I've had good service and great prices from them in the past. Perhaps not sustainable. Where did you hear that Mark?

Hi Guys

When I was there a few months ago I got the impression it was going well and I am surprised he did not try to sell as a going concern or maybe he did.

For those who have never been it was run out of a house and garages, suppose thats how they managed to keep costs down.

Cheers

Doug

Boo ! spoke to him last week about my heat and run,he did say it was dead, thought he might have done a deal, but the one i bought was £50 cheaper than his allready discounted price.
He said if the carpet cleaners arn`t doing well it has a big effect on him

He may have just decided not worth the hassle, made his fortune and retiring early. Not necessarily a failure.

Sell his stock off and live through the recession and start again at a later date.

The trouble is that if quite a few go down it's bad for us as the ones left get a monopoly, perhaps we ought to support our local traders.

I'm not surprised. There are many people who come into business, lots of carpet cleaners amongst them, who think you have to compete on price. Consequently they offer goods and services at something like 10% margins.
It doesn't work, all it does is knack up the market for the cleaners and suppliers out there who do it properly.
How can you sell a £100's worth of chemicals and run a business on the £10 profit.

Think john is right on that post ???

The cheaper end always will go first i guess.

Think with c cleaners the work is getting harder to find and the quality jobs.

A good idea is to have an add on service :)

I agree John on the other hand there are those that take advantage, it's about trying to find a happy medium I think this is where value for money comes in which is miles away from the meaning of cheap.

Hate negative news! Know a lot who use factoring, also remember a chap called mister 10% look at the size of former company.

Thanks Steve will be giving him a call Monday CASH with a mugger discount (what a vulture)

But on the positive side, haircut yesterday job Monday, brought two walkie-talkies today and got 5% off job tomorrow (saves hiring a rug doctor her words) missed out on clean of shop insurance job next door flooded it bummer.
