In a Quandary!! help needed
« on: March 11, 2009, 05:24:52 pm »
Hi all
I have been tearing my hair out about  going wfp but eventually took the plunge and got myself a little berlingo. I would be working only 2 maybe 3 days a week as have another job and fit this in between my main job. My concern:

Had decided on a 40 ro sytem 350 ltr tank with a fitting cost of just over 2k plus poles and hose coming out between 2250 and 2400k!!!(wow). But the last few days been thinking if this is really the system for me as do i really need such a system costing that much when am only doing 2/3 days. i def want to go wfp but been thinking about getting a diy system which with poles etc  would only prob cost half of that. so does it have any effect on the finished job of the type of system you have? will the windows been cleaned better by a more expensive system or will the cheaper system do the same job? the way i see it is that surely at the end of the day you are getting pure water on to the window and if its getting on there at a low tds it will clean! right ?or am i wrong?.
The prob is i am worried about going diy or buying a package as i would have to fit it myself and me and diy just do not go ( i can wire a plug but thats about the extent of it) so i really dont know what to do and was after some much needed advice  which would be most appreciative.
look forward to any comments if anyone can help

Would i be wasting my money on a full blown sytem just for 2/3 days a week.
Cheers Guys

Andy

hiya, def use ibc at home if you have space.

for 3 days a week you'd easily get away with a 100gpd standard ro system from ro-man or similar. dirt cheap.

where are you based, if your tds reading is pretty low to begin with then you maybe able just to use a di vessel and not need ro system
better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove any doubt

Hi trevor
I am in wiltshire and do my window cleaning here and in surrey which i think are both hard water areas, i am not sure what the tds is in either area but is prob worth finding out. Thanks

yes there is a need , i want to continue safely for one with my feet firm on the ground, had lots of near misses and have family to consider. Also have a couple of commercials which now have to be wfp and i believe my earning potential could improve about 20-30%  maybe a tad more when fully up to speed, but i take on board what you say with the added cost.Thnaks

Yep there are no real cleaning advantages of getting a fitted system.  A diy will clean the windows just as well.  Having a tank set up in a shed or garage though is a very good idea, ro's in vans aren't really ideal, especially in winter months.

Fitted systems are good though in that you don't have to fit it yourself, you let some one else worry about it, but it won't work any better than a good diy system.  I'd go diy and spend the extra money on decent poles, that's where the real advantage will be.

Simon.

Not really a quandary cos the the best way to go is to get the water tank professionally fitted but keep the RO away from the van.
Putting it in the shed with a storage tank nearby will give you the greatest flexibility and a cheaper option as a bonus.
No real advantage i can see in having a RO in the van. Unless you have work that ties you to a site for days.
