DI before or after pump
« on: March 09, 2009, 10:19:38 am »
Looking at setting up another system without an RO; do I put the pump before or after the DI?
If it goes between tank and pump will the pump cope and could it suck resin into it; or if it goes after will the vessel be under pressure and possibly cause lack of flow.

I would put it before and put a strainer before pump,  this is what I do and never had a problem, I am sure others do it different

I firstly set it up with DI before pump and it gave me nothing but trouble. Now I have it after pump and it is fine.

Also, the pumps we use are designed to cope well with pressure (positive displation pumps) but not so well with suction. By putting the DI before the pump there will be alot of suction going on.

I have to add this: my di is before tank also, so all water in tank is pure out of tank past strainer then pump.

DI before tank,.. so the water in the tank is always pure. I have a 1" dispenser nozzle on the tank outlet for quick backpack fills.

Works either way but if you get your pressure setting too high you run the risk of blowing the seal out or worse warping the top to the extent of popping the screw threads of the resin bottle like i did with the vessel after the pump.
Mine blew becuase of a low battery - the varistream wouldn't shut off and just allowed the pump to keep going.  :o
