Things every newbie should know
« on: March 07, 2009, 08:43:24 pm »
Someone once said:
'Experience teaches us a short cut, but via a long road'

What would you say to a new starter?

I could start with.
'Don't underprice, you'll get work but wish you hadn't'
'Watch out for people getting you to do a spring clean, who will then cancel after 1 clean'
'Have savings before you start, cos this could take a while to work'

Or if you go out and someone asks they have that distant look in their eyes when you tell them what you do. As if to say "Hmmm and he looked so normal, not like a scumbag at all"

I also agree with you, having a fancy job title doesn`t keep your house and it dosen`t put food on the table does it.

Don't date customers if you want to keep them.

I would say anything is possible, aim high and give it everything you have to to get there. You only need three things to run a successful business...

1. Determination
2. Perseverance
3. And self-believe

And none of them will cost you a thing, do what others have done before you and you will have there same success, as well as there mistakes. Have vision and innovation and there is no limits.

A job is a job, its pays the bills, could you drag someone off the streets to do the job we do as well as we do?
I think window cleaning is under rated.

Don't become a window cleaner, it rots the brain.
It's a game of three halves!

There's doing the job and there's doing the job correctly. There's two types of W/C.
One's making a quick buck and there's people who make a living and doing it right, insurance, Training, the van sign writing etc.  Not some ford escort with ladders on top with a couple of dole doser's earning a bob or two on the side,  that's what make's businesses fail with looser's like that.

Don't get yourself a bad reputation from your customers if you want to make the job long term.
