just wondered if regular water butts can be used to store pure water.heard somewhere that beeing made from recycled plastic they contaminate the water and leaves impurites.is that true as have 2 spare ones in my garden and thought that they could be good for storing the pure water and save some money on a new tank.many thanks

Yes they are fine for pure water but don't hold a great deal.

Maybe better getting an upright tank or IBC

thanks good to know that you use them with no problem.just read somewhere that if they are not made from food grade plastic can contaminate the water but i think it's just not true than.thanks once again.i'll be thinking on upgrading to a proper upright one but maybe in a few months

I used a 210L - no contamination issues -  but it was a bit fiddly even with a larger tap. (Gravity feed)

So last year I bought a 600L IBC and have a 3" bore transfer hose which gravity feeds me a 400L tp my van tank in a few minutes.

In fact no algae either due to "solid" colour plastic.

I must get round to blacking out my IBC one weekend.

yea no probs i had two 210l  but now have 1000l ibc wish i could fill it,just got 200gpd system  and by friday iam scraping the water out to finish me jobs

You can add a membrane to make 300gpd, I did, makes a lot of difference
