Hose pipe ban/ wfp ban
« on: March 29, 2005, 02:26:03 pm »
With hose pipe bans almost guaranteed again this summer how do we all feel about using close to a tonne of water a day in these circumstances.

Did any one have negative feedback from residents/customers last summer during hose pipe bans and are we justifyed in cleaning windows with water fed poles.
Did anyone stop cleaning  during these periods?

Not sure about that one...but I reckon I'd carry on as normal, still got to make a living. Anyway, what about industry ?...they must use more water than I ever could !

I think in recent years most hose pipe bans have been banning the use of hoses in the garden for watering plants etc as opposed to hoses for commercial reasons, if it got that bad I guess they might ban other uses, but how can there ever be a water shortage with the amount of rain we get. Years ago (was it 1976 when we had the big shortages) my old chap said they couldn't even fill up with a bucket of water at most sites, it was that scarce, guess they scrimmed everthing! Hers to a hot and long summer.

Mike, how much water do you use a day ?
Its usually only a hose ban, I just tell the 1 complainer that I make my own water and let them figure it out  :)

What an interesting thought!!

I could quite easily see some local councillor deciding that WFP systems fell within the constraints of a water ban.  When I worked in the food industry, even that was prone to inspection and justification for water usage during times of shortage.

How would most customers feel if they were told they couldn't water their prize roses but the local window cleaner could wash down half the outside of their house without a problem?

Lets wait and see what local authorities do decide on if ever the time comes!!

Most councils state that water can be used for the cleaning of windows during a "hose pipe ban"
However i bet they are unaware of water fed poles !!!!
Think id say i collect my own water if questions are asked

My water bill is £300.00 a quater i dont think the water board would be worring about telling me not to fill my tank up if they thought they were going to loose all that money.Any ways i have a seperate meter cos more water you use the more they charge for drainage and sewage and on separate meter you can show them you are not putting it down the drain

My god, £300 a quarter :o
Is that just  for the water you use with your WFP?
Not being metered we only get the one bill a year, about £130 or so I think, and we don't get a charge for storm drainage or sewage as we process our own ;)
A cesspit is fine until you have to rod your drains :-\
My wife is glad to play the sexist herself in those occasions....'mans work', she tells, 'I'll go and cook lunch'. she says, reaching for my pinny :'(

Sigh :-\ It's hard being me :-[

Don't you all worry about a hosepipe ban - I go camping in May - so there will be rain a-plenty for a week beforehand so that the ground is saturated, then it will rain while I am away and then it will bucket down on the morning we pack the tent away!

Then as soon as I start work again it will rain for a week.

Then the sun will come out until August when I go camping again!

A whole new meaning to the water cycle!
It's a game of three halves!
