im looking into buying a stand pipe and using water from united utilites from roadside supplies.  can anyone give me any advice?  on the united utilites website it says there are 2 types of pipe 22mm and 50mm, which one should i get? also if you rent the pipe off them its £508 for 22mm and £687 for 50mm a year plus water usage is on top of that.  jesus its not cheap?  cant i get my own pipe and just pay for water used from them?  please help???

what size do you guys use to fill your tanks?

How quick do you want to fill it ?  I have a 3/4" stand pipe that fills a 400ltr tank on my jetter in about 10 mins - not that I have ever used it I can't understand why you would want to transport water for cleaning a drive - I just set the wheely bin up first

I bought 2 four inch pipes last year, one with a double outlet. With a four inch pipe you can fill an IBC tank, 1000ltrs, in about ten minutes.

I also have three one inch pipes and can fill an IBC, 1000ltrs in about 15 minutes.

Here's the crunch though. How close to the hydrant can you get, this will vary. I have needed to be 200 metres away from the hydrant, filling our drain jetter, continually.

200 metres of 4 inch hose will cost a fortune, from memory about £140.00 for 20 metres and when it has water flowing through it it is a nightmare to handle.

200 metres of one inch cost me about £360.00.

There's more to think about than just getting the tap, my one inch taps cost £50.00.

I said on a previous thread that a standpipe license for a months use in Islington was £120.00

bdcs i dont just do drives.  im quoting a hospital so need water supply handy.  its worth knowing the score on this so if i need to i can use a hydrant.

with a 1000ltr tank you can work for well over an hour and then drive to standpipe and fill up in about 10 mins,if you connect proper fire hose to end of standpipe it can fill it in about 2 minutes the standpipe you get from the utility company has a metre on it and you phone them every month with the amount used so they can bill you for it of memory its about £1.20 per 1000ltr if you get caught using a unauthorised standpipe then there is a very large fine so better to just buy the correct one and put it as part of your expenses,£500 is a lot but spread over year is only £10 a week and can save hours on jobs where there is no water supply.

yeah but if there are no outside taps where do you get water from?  a hydrant is the only source so thats why im checkin. i dont wanna run dry!
