I Fell..
« on: February 16, 2009, 05:20:22 pm »
im writing this with one hand, i was doing a conservatory roof thismorning [trade style] i wasnt at a bad angle at all but as i was scrubbin i must have lent to much over the ladder and the feet went, the ladder went crashing down, somehow i landed on my feet but unfortunatly my hand went straight through a sheet of glass that was over hanging the conservatory, sliced my fingers to the bone, completely lost skin on one of my finger tips, the house owner came running out, blood everywhere, ambulance came and i spent most of the day there and they said no more ladders for you for 1-2weeks minimum.
i am litteraly 2weeks away from getting a WFP, typical. the guys sending me the bill for his glass, after all that he even payed me for the clean which was really nice of him!

It couldve been alot worse,

Take a couple of weeks off and keep your feet on the ground,

Sorry to hear that but this could work to your benefit as you can now tell all your custys that due to a bad fall youve decided to go wfp.

Sorry to hear of your accident ZaNo - it shakes you up doesn't it?

I was lucky enough not to ever fall off a ladder but used the fact that I could as a safety reason to justify wfp to custies.
It's a game of three halves!

you dreaming again Tomy  ;D ;D
There is ever increasing army of blokes who thought WFP was a waste of time for their work, but who now have it.
I was one of the first in my (admittedly backward) area of Thanet in Kent and a number of guys said it was a waste of time, and all of them now have it....

If you can't beat 'em, what's the point in having kids, no sorry I mean join 'em

Its things like that that happening that make you think "is it worth going up ladders" asll it takes is one slip

There was a Traditional cleaner in my town  that was killed when he fell of his ladders onto a car and he wasnt found straight away

left a wife and kids what a loss

set his ladders up probably the same a thousand times over as hed been cleaning windows for years

And to make matters worse another local cleaner heard about this and started knocking on doors on his round touting for work  (he knows who he is and if you are reading this your SICK)

Theres also another guy i know who now uses WFP he was a Ladders guy untill the ladders slipped oneday and he broke both his ankles  after he recovered he bought a stayclean franchise

just take it steady you got off very very lucky

I would be interested to know why people have fallen from their ladders.
Bottom of ladders slipping outwards or slipping sideways or simply coming off?

I would think most of us know of someone who has fallen off a ladder. I know ot three that have come off step ladders and injured themselves badly. I know of another who was fitting fascias when the bottom slid out - he lost his teeth and knee-caps. I know of a diy-er who fell off his roof too whilst tiling. A local windowcleaner who fell and broke his legs.

So you guys who fell - why was it?

man this is such a bore everything i do is with one hand now and if i accidently bend my fingers or go to use my hand its a killer pain!! argh!! typical

I slipped because i lent to hard on the upper bit of ladder which was up against the conservatory causing the lower end to back up.

About 10 years ago i came of the ladder the ground was a bit wet and there was a bit of moss on the path anyway was up cleaning the bedroom window next minute you get that horrible feeling in your stomach the ladder slips worst feeling you will ever get came straight down elbow hit the concrete first smashed my elbow to peices wthin 10 minutes my elbow was more than twice the size ended up with pins and a wire holding it together for a year.To this day i still clean that same window with ladders.

Broke tiblia & fibia (both bones in right leg at the joint) in 1986, just had the screws removed november 08.  My ladder slipped from under me, yeh your stomach goes right into your mouth!
They didnt have wfp then, but if they had i would have chucked me ladders in the bloody skip.
Still cleaning windows now though most of its WFP!!!.....laters
