How much outstanding
« on: February 08, 2009, 11:48:06 am »
Just gone through my outstanding invoices all commercial
£ 5,286.00 owed, but I know the cheques will arrive reguarly some in two or three weeks some in a couple of months
I know a lot of commercial window cleaners are owed alot more than this
And probably are not unduly worried ,most commercial is at least 28 days for payment
How would this sit with domestic window cleaners.

If I had that amount outstanding I would be out knocking on doors with a baseball bat!

we always have between 10 and £15,000 outstanding. and we are commercial and domestic.

You've got to employ or sub to have that much outstanding; and are there any 'flap times' when you're struggling to pay your employees/sub-contractors when your cash-flow is dire and overdraft to the hilt?

no we dont have any problems like that, never in my overdraft, no problems paying my staff, the bigger you get the more is outstanding at any one time, we turn over more than 400k a year

i find that what i turnover a month is normally about my debt each month. it all just rolls over. so if i was turning over 400k a year my debt would be around 30k so to keep it at 10 - 15k is good going!!

I find that it is always about 3-5k per van outstanding at any one time, i run 3 vans so 10-15 but as you say it constantly rolls over, so it doesnt bother me. oh and we are currently working on moving over to direct debit and if that works we wont have anything outstanding!

let me just work that out............ 375,000 from window cleaning then a further 15K per year per van on our extras, gutters, facia, conservatory roofs, insides  and a full range of jetwashing services, i also sub out carpet cleaning.

I thought about direct debit but how would this work, you couldnt have a set day a month as we work on 4 week rotas so 13 cleans a year and youd only ge12 payments, also running late like now theyd be debited before clean been done.
