nice bit of advertising it should definately help to get you noticed even if the safe contrator doesnt.
better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove any doubt

Oh...SafeContractor
We were in it for 3 years and each year you just send in the same paperwork from the previous year. they reply with 'we need further details on....' which was fine last time, but you adjust the paperwork send it in and hey presto, you meet the standard again.
12 months later and you do the same thing all over again >:(
Nice vehicle sticker by the way ;D

The biggest joke about this scheme is that the large signed up companies (let's say Lloyds TSB for one) are supposed to use people who have passed SafeContractor status, but take it from me that doesn't happen.

Well done Dave

Neil is right, but, for the hassle of the application & a few pounds i think its worth it. I,ve had mine 3 or 4 years now & every time i send a quote  i give a copy of safecontractor certificate amongst all my h&s pack. Yes my pack looks good, but, it doesnt always win as most of the time it goes on price. But, i would still feel better quoting with it than without it.

P.S. only thing now is if you quote bigger jobs its CHAS, CONDTRUCTIONLINE & the two ISO,s.

I have Chas & looking into Constructionline now, ISO,s very expensive 2k plus. I was not short listed for some work/contracts because i did not have ISO, more that the bigger companies give back handers!!!

All the best

Gary

P.S. whats the weather like down there & i still cant afford that VW.

Safecontractor sounds good and looks good. Well done to anyone who gets it.Again the same as any other business, it is only as good as Brittania let it be. 3 years running we had the list of Companies who may use Safecontractor only accreditees. 3 years running Companies listed did not exist (or had been taken over by others who had not heard of SC), 3 years running we contacted the list (those that were still around) reactions were varied. Some did not know what SC was! Some said yes we do use SC, but we don't have to and usually dont! Some said we do sometimes use Main Contractors with SC, but we do not check down the line when work is subbed on. One in particular who are a large facilities mgt company, admitted that they knew the contractor they had employed  on a local sitewas not SC, but they weren't worried and yet they advertise that they have a 100% rule that only SC should be used. We spoke to Brittania about this and the attitiude was "well we can't force people to use SC members!"  Fair enough but when we mentioned the fact that some companies did not exist from their list, they really couldn't have cared less. Now I know some people have gained worked from having the accreditation and well done to them, but as with most things it just may not live up to expectations. :)

The real reason i got Safecontractor was not to be part of a closed shop or anything.

It was simply to highlight to potential and existing clients that i was serious about my health and safety. This was the simplest and quickest way for me to show some commitment to them H&S wise and they have all been suitably impressed.

I do not rely on this on its own. We have always been part of an association and already have comprehensive h&s documents in place , we are just in the proccess of employing the services of a safety consultant and also I am doing the IOSH managing safely at work course, my employees have embarked on a training program and are booked in for courses in the coming months.

I do not expect to get any jobs from Safecontractor subscribers, that part didint entice me one bit.

I contacted them a few weeks ago, they emailed me the pack, sent me the pack and have rung me every week since, once today also.
