if you use these type of fittings (the silver quick release ones for others using and not knowing the name)

do you have the female on your tap end or on your hose end ?

if female on tap end can you let me know the reason also if you have on pole end as I do can you also let me know the reason please.

just looking into changing things around on my pole etc.

Female (stop end) on the hose from the hosereel.
Putting the male on the hosereel hose end wouldn't stop water flow when you disconnect pole hose.
Only 1 female needed, loads of males for your poles
Female cost 7 or 8 pounds

do you not use taps ?

at the mo I have mine set up, 8mm hose tap with male, then female on pole hose. Now I am not saying this is the best way by any means it is just what I started with and carried it on, I am now looking to sort everything out for the best hence this post. I have noticed that I use quite a few females to males.

I personally have the male tail on the pole hose with a Protecta-Ball™ on to prevent accidental disconnection.

I then have the female on the end of my Microbore™ with another Protecta-Ball™ fitted to prevent wear.

The reason I have them this way around is that when I dis-connect my pole the flow is shut-off.

I have a separate push-fit flow valve (as below) on my pole hose as it is a less bulky and heavy than the one on the end of the Microbore™ and does not get as knocked about.

mine dont do this as I always walk back with it before winding in.

when you put on the fittings together  does it not leak water due to the pressure build up ?
The only thing that puts me off is the fittings leak after a while and sometime I have no need to disconnect hose reel at all and with no tap to stop it I would it not leak water everywhere

When I got my pole from you, the rectus 21 was on the pole rather than the micriobore.

When I put the pole back in the van after use, the water would dribble out of the pole hose leaving a puddle in the back of the van. Surely its better to go the other way round.

Nothing leaks on mine. The rectus fittings don't leak the pole hose valve doesn't leak.
If i ever get a leak it's normally the hose clips need pinching up a little. I use two at ninety degrees to each other.
The female is an end stop anyway so i can trail the hose through a terraced house right through their lounge with it disconnected and pressured up.

This would leave the end of the microbore with no end-stop though, unless you use a valve.

Surely the best solution would be to have a male tail with a shut-off built in as well.........watch this space.

I hang my pole hose coiled up and cleaned every time with the end near the top and the pole hose tap shut off - rarely dribbles anywhere.

Yeah, think I'll have a search around. my pump box is approx 2ft above my water tank so if there's a decent gap between jobs I have to run the pump on full for a few seconds to pull the water head back up. Not a big issue but always thought a non return valve would cure it? What do you think?

As far as im concerned this is how the taps should come, with either 6, 8 or 13mm (for backpack) brass hosetail

And i asked and asked for a female end, they sent me a new tap ... exactly the same one and then sent me another male end.

I have always had female end on hose reel and tail's on all poles...that way its cheaper if youve got say 5 poles, 5 males are cheaper than 5 females.
