Commercial window cleaning prices??
« on: February 03, 2009, 05:21:14 pm »
Hi guys,

I am in need of some help please.

I have recently invested in a wfp system 650 litre 2 man opperational equipment.

I am just in the process of going around to 7 hotel to provide quotes for the window cleaning.

Trouble is I have been cleaning carpets for the last 10 years and it seems to me that the earning potential with the windows is less than the carpets.

I know that everyone has an amount that they are happy to earn in a day, but is there a rough guide as to how much a commercial window cleaner should be charging for a days work.

Most of the work is in and around Surrey.

Please some helpful advice would be good. Thank you

PS I am looking for an ifor williams trailer to switch from my van- does anyone know of one. bv84 if possible

Didn't you do any research before investing? You obviously know how much you want to earn per day so go in with your price. If you can't get any work then your too high most likely. I have picked up some commercial work by being substantially cheaper than other quotes - maybe because i'm too cheap but it's at a price i'm happy with. I've also quoted and never heard another word.

you get what you can from commercial jobs one day you could earn 150 the next you could earn more or less depending on logistics, pricing etc
for example I have a residential complex for the elderley the jobs worth £120 if I had to do this job by myself  I wouldn,t want to be doing anything else that day,due to not having nothing else close by and secondly I would be cream crackered

thanks for your input, not much help though.

before investing i already had quite a few clients who wanted to use me as i clean their offices but i was just wondering what other guys charge.

If it is wrong of me to ask that then just say. dont beat around the bush...

Put in a price that you are happy with. If you are happy with £100 a day then thats what you need to base your prices on.

the reason your not getting much reply is cause only you know the answer charge what you want to earn work out how long it will take and times by hourly rate. it takes time to get your pricing right.

can i ask how can a comany want to use you to clean windows with no exerience?

they could get rid of there old window cleaner and get a worse end product

slrobo,  Seems like you have the hump! ;D . As people on here have said it all depends on what you want to earn. Why does that sound like we all have the hump? People have given their advice , what more do you want?

I think that you may be asking too broad a question.

I am based near to Alton Towers - Staffordshire and have been fortunate to have had a reasonable amount of success in both window cleaning and commercial cleaning (external - hard cleaning) and this is ongoing.

I have had contract work - window cleaning that has paid me more than I could have earned in a month (in my previous job), for one days work. I would see this as very much not the norm.

I also had McDonalds on three weekly cleans @ £18.00 per clean. I had pubs between £20.00 to £40.00, nursing homes between £40.00 and £60.00 but I had lots and lots and lots plus lots and lots of domestics on a very tight round.

How did I price, I tried to find out what they were charging, I would ask them outright!!!. I would try and work out how long it would take me to clean at my domestic hourly rate.

I would then charge an hourly rate plus travelling and or adding £10.00, £20.00, 30.00 to the price.

When you have a full work schedule it is easier to charge what you want because if you don't get it it doesnt affect you.

It isn't as easy as to ask for a price  because the variables are many and you may have more need than me to get the job so you will price it cheaply to get it.

I have had 9 years of pricing and can gauge quite quickly how long it will take and what I shouuld be charging but I can still get it wrong.

You are not a direct threat to me. I am currently building another window cleaning business, local to me and would not like to offer immediate competition a helping hand. You are far enough away to offer help.

I am a strong believer in networking and forming working relationships around the country. I can see their being mutual benefits to assisting others.

We offer many services that others in the window cleaning, carpet cleaning and general cleaning do not but they have a customer base that might be interested in our services. I help you - you help me we both benefit.

I also have a Ninja and a CFR perfect heat 500 in the back of our unit that will be marketed in the near future and I  mmay need advice and help in the future.

You bought a system, and you dont even know how to price jobs!!!!
Hotels have asked you to quote, I smell some bull here, bet you told them you were expanding into window cleaning, and know theyve already got a W/C service. Am I right?

Lots of places nowadays will tell you what they want to pay then its upto you if you want the work. I looked at a shop the other day they wanted 3 cleans a week outside plus inside and all signs once a week for £ 15.00  I was very happy to walk away but someone will do it that is a certainty.
