The first commercial cleaning
« on: January 30, 2009, 01:36:09 pm »
In Tuesday I'm going on a meeting about my first commercial cleaning contract, 6 hours per week. How much should I charge, should I ask for a contract or "we'll see how it'll go"? I've never done commercial cleans before, only domestic ones. I live in North Yorkshire.

Hi Anna good luck, not sure what you should charge but i should imagine it could be anything between £10-£15 per hour, Yes you will need to draw up a contract between you and your prospective client, dont forget you will need to get insurance.

Hi Anna,

Have you been awarded the contract or is this your First time providing a quotation for commercial cleaning?

As Chris B says pricng will be around the £10. - 15.00 mark I would say in my opinion £12.00 + cost of materials.

When you attend have information on your company and services you offer.
Ask them if they have cleaners on site already...! If they do TUPE will be part of this and you may need to take on the existing cleaners.

If so ask why they are changing and be confident that you have and can provide a solution to there problems.

Something tobare in mind do not just price low, work out a profit you can work with. Be warned that many companies especially larger ones will and can go in as low as £9.50ph

best of luck

Commercial companies wont normally want to supply the equipment and chemicals.

By all means put it down as a suggestion, but do not tell them that's how you operate.

My advise here would be go in at £10.50 plus inc chemicals but bin liners white ones for desk bins and black bags etc are seperate per 200.

On average white bags are about £10 per 1000, black bags are around £15.00 per 200 depending on quality.

Also if you have a business card make sure you present it and hand it to them.

Dont forget about TUPE. As what it is that they want, times for access and any special areas they consider to up most important.

Also you probably know but go smartly dressed! Clean vehicle.

And dont forget as you are surveying the contract to make notes on everything, enquire about there business and look interested (even if your not) do notcriticize the previous contractors work! its silly and unprofessional and you never know it could be a relative of there's cleaning (or a friend) ;D  Also dont be late for your appointment.

I went for a meeting and owner wanted me to clean straight way! I got time and clothes to change so I did. £10 /hour, I know, I should negotiate more. They supply everything. It's a restaurant; owner used to do cleaning, but now she wants some help twice per week, 2 hours each time, so is less that I thought, but that's OK. We haven't written a contract as such though. Should I ask for it next time? And what exacly should be written there ?

ive just taken on my first commercial clean, last week.

I have to clean just 2 hours once a weeks at the moment but may go back to  2hours twice a week.

Ive charged them £55 for each visit and they were more then happy with that.

Hello Jana
Good luck with a new contract.
Are you charging £27.5 per hour?  :o Is it for two  cleaners?
More I read , more I see I undercharged myslef  :(  I just gave some more advertising to a local paper, worked for me before. When I'll get new customers I'll ask for £12 per hour.
