Dont be sorry Kim, at least you are using the forum properly and doing searches too instead of getting people to do the work for you

Hi Kim

Don't know what your budget is like but I have been informed that the CRB are putting up the cost of a police check by £4 from the 31st March also two of the umbrella bodies which I contacted (because I can't afford £300) are also putting their fees up by £2 per application.

If you have your staff lined up already I'd get the applications in quick - could save you a few pounds!

Maggie :)

You are indeed right Maggie, and I have been informed that as I am one of the low user registered companies (ie been registered since November of last year and haven't actually done a search yet), it is likely that I will be de-registered as they are trying to save money!! I was not aware that Umbrella Bodies existed (as nobody at the CRB ever told me in my numerous conversations with them), so I have basically wasted £300.00.... I might as well have rippd it up and thrown it away. Typical ripp off Governmental Depts...driop, drip, moan, moan off me soapbox now! ;D

Don't get caught out like I did.......even if I can save one person from paying £300.00 when there is no need to, I will be a happy bunny!! ;D

Hi Kim

The open/close ref is a bit confusing. Nothing seems to be laid out clearly these days!

You can get in touch with anyone who is classed as open and are not registered for volunteers only. My cheapest contact worked out at £10 plus of course the crb fee for each member of staff. There are two levels of checking. One is more expensive than the other. For the likes of me I think the cheaper one is adequate. Is this the one you went for Jan?

Regards

Maggie :)

Hi Maggie!

No I didn't go for an Umbrella Body, as I was never made aware that they existed. I forked out my £300.00 to register with the CRB (big mistake), but I haven't undertaken a Disclosure Check yet.  :(

Thats a lot of money! :'(
However does this not give you the right to become an umbrella body yourself,  8)which means that as a sideline you can offer the same service out for a fee? Worth looking into. See how many there are in your area.........!

Indeed Maggie, and I have sent an email to the CRB asking how I go about registering as an Umbrella Body. There are a few in this area, but many are closed, it won't cost me anything more and I might as well make use of my registration to help other small businesses who don't feel the need to register. I can charge a small fee, which will cover any administration I will need to carry out, and maybe a teensy weensy way towards covering my initial fee, but mainly I feel I have something to offer that is sitting doing nothing at the moment.  ;)
