Any legal requirements to receive internet payments?
« on: January 19, 2009, 09:03:41 am »
I was thinking recently, that considering the way our country has gone over the last few years with all of the extra legislation, is there any requirements for those of us that have internet collection systems in place ?

What about the collecting of their email addresses ?

Are we allowed to email them back about extra services ?

Well we have had quite a few looking at this post, but no replies, so I must assume that no one knows whether there are any legal requirements.

Anyone got any ideas where we might be able to find out ?

never replyed because i was hoping someone had the exact answer, i did a bit on my start up course with business gateway, the jist i got at the time was you can not go emailing the public, business to business is fine, but once a customer is on your books its ok. but there is probably more to it than that so check with business link, or gateway if in scotland. they will normally tell you free of charge

You can collect email addresses from customers with their permission and email to them latest products, services ect...

but you must provide instructions on how they can unsubscribe from your mailing list, ie,

(to unsubscribe, email the word UNSUBSCRIBE to "your email address" )

thats it...... :o
