Tips on removing mould / mildew ?
« on: January 08, 2009, 04:13:46 pm »
Cleaned a sofa today which had been stored in a garage for several months.
Noticed several little black spots of mould.
Used Extracta's Lift off and used slight agitation but still was'nt 100% happy with the results.
Any advice if I come across this again...its pretty damn hard to shift.

The mould you can see is actually the fruiting bodies indicating that the actual mould or fungi has been growing for a while and using the material as a food source. If it is a light material then the black spots may be permanent due to degradation of the material. Lift off will not kill mould so as said use Clensan.

May get shot down in flames, but Mpower is very good
at removing mould and mildew, works a treat on curtains
so why not upholstery.

I've certainly had some great successes with MP on mould & mildew odours - the black spots can be permanent, as said above.

Hi Guys

I'ts extremely difficult to reomove mildew as it's grown into the fabric.

I examined some under a microscope the other week and could clearly se the mildew embedded in the fabric.

Cheers

Doug

Most detergents, colloids and microsplitters will remove the actual mould but the fabric damage is a different story.

Besides the surface contamination cleaning and the ugly pit damages, you may need a fungicide to controls it reoccurrence.

Otherwise cleaning may be short lived.

This product is effective to control it reoccurrence for at least 8 months.

And although it is developed for leather and suede, it can be used in all upholstery fabric except rayon and silk.
